Philly Marathon Race Report
I had a spectacular run.
I started out doing 9 min miles for the first 6 - and really stuck to this. had to go pee at 4 miles so lost 45 seconds there (super hydration plan of yesterday worked to a tee!) then after 6 miles, dialed it down t 8:30s. walked 30 steps through most water stations. thought of my "one thing" at 20 miles (Elly and Rachel and Eleanor and how much I love them and how lucky I am) and then at 24 miles, I started to count people I was passing and stopped at 100! I slowed down a bit from 23 miles so my last three were 8:44s (oh yeah, I had to pee AGAIN at 14 miles - so at least two mins lost through peeing. oh well!).
I have never had to pee on a marathon before so I have to figure that one out.
But I felt AWESOME and when I saw my finishing time, I was really really happy. I have been doing 3-4 runs and two bikes a week and my overall fitness got me to a terrific finish.
I have to say I am a bit surprised because I did zero quality work in my trainin- all just junk runs - although my bike workouts were quality in the last month. So this was just bloodymindedness!! Think what's going to happen when I do my EN OS!! whoo hoo!
And to top it all off, it's my 48th birthday. I am very very pleased. And to make it even better I am staying with my friends David and David who have been kindness personified. I am a very lucky person.
