Had the opportunity to spend a bit of time with Al and his wife at IMAZ.  Shot this quick vid for the team.  Enjoy!

  • Al is Awesome. I can't even begin to tell you how much I learned just listening to him before IMCDA this year. Maybe it should be the 4 keys with special guest Al?
  • Great to see him at the race and glad to hear he'll be back on line full force soon....always has good guidance....
  • You look great Al. Looking forward to Dec 1st.
  • Awesome! See you soon, Al!
  •  Thanks for doing this John!

Al- you look and sound great! glad you are steadily making your way back.

  • John - Thanks!!
AL - just keep on amaizing us!
  • The MAN is bouncing back.
I keep waiting for him to say, "Stay thirsty, my friends."
  • @Chris LOL.

"I dont always race Ironmans, but when I do, its FAST."

  • It's Dec 1st, and as promised in that video, I'm back online with EN (I was hanging out only in the IM AZ group), and so I'm seeing this thread for the first time. The ironic thing (to me) of those last two comments (which were WAY FUNNY) is: "the most interesting man in the world" looks exactly like my first nemesis in triathlon racing, a guy named Bill Wahmuth. It took me four years, but I finally was able to beat him consistently at sprint/oly distance (he wouldn't do "the long ones"). The next year, I stopped seeing him at the races anymore. I see those commercials, and I figure he got a better paying gig.

I had great races with him; his swim was faster a little faster, and I would catch up with my bike, then we often would meet in T2 for a good old ITU style foot race, where our speeds were just about the same. I credit him with teaching me how to race and how to win on the run - let him tear out of transition, and then reel him in.

When John filmed that, I said I was at "60%"; now I'm up to 70-75%, as measured by weight gain and strength in the weight room. I'm up to 5 miles/44 minutes running, and will try to add 5 min/0.5 miles each week to get to an hour by the start of my Jan OS. I'm going to try a "social" ride with my local tri team this Sat AM for my first jaunt outdoors on a bike.
