Pain in right area of groin and arch of foot

Couple of weird things.  After we got back from our epic drive, I started having some significant pain at the top of the arch of my right foot.  It kind of sounds like Posterior Tibial something something but not good at self diagnosis.  It hurts most if I place my foot vertical to the floor with the tips of my toes touching the floor with foot in vertical position or worse, if I place my toes in that position and then flex forward.  I have been stretching it all day by doing the vertical foot thing then kneeling that knee towards the floor so that once I lower the knee the top of my foot is flexed and touching the floor.  Make sense???  It hurts but feels like it's doing some good.

Additionally but probably not related is that where my upper leg attached to the hip on the inside of the groin area, I have a lot of pain when walking.  Not really when running but mostly when walking.

Any thoughts on these?

  • Okay. So first question- this the same leg??

For the foot- hard to tell what specifically it is as far as tendons/muscles go, but since all the tendons go up the back of the leg, you're best bet will always be to work out that calf and the bottom of the foot. Follow it up with frequent stretching and ice. Foam roll and frozen waterbottle/tennis ball.

For the hip- going to need some more info for this one. how'd it start?

  • Thanks Leigh. The groin pain is just at the juncture of the upper leg to the hip on the inside of the leg. It has gone one for quite a while and hurts when I walk after about 5 minutes of walking. It doesn't hurt when I'm running.

Hasan has given good advice by phone on the foot too. Both of you suggest good stretching and icing.

Thanks. I would love to hear any ideas on the groin issue.
  • Since it's not all the time, it's most likely muscular versus joint/bone. Ultimately groin pain can be from surrounding hip muscles, the joint (bone + cartilage breakdown), or referred pain from nerves. The latter two would produce symptoms all the time versus only walking so to me that says it's something about how your walking.

what's different shoe wise between walking and running? does it matter where you are- flat ground, stairs, etc? do you drag your feet when you walk (shuffle)?
  •  Shoes make no difference, when I'm walking my warm up in my running shoes it hurts but once I start running, it calms down and doesn't hurt any longer.  Very weird.

No shuffling,  complete total pet peeve.  Gal in my office does it and I just want to scream at her to pick up her feet...OMG...I've become my mother!!!!

  • ever had any studies of the hip done or anyone work specifically on the hip?? if not. you should. could be a few different things and hard to dx remotely without hands on and visual. image
