finisher's hat

 I lost my 09 IMLP finisher's hat.... is it pathetic to try and find one???? I don't do tattoos and my medal is behind glass, it was the one thing that I wore with pride.  Should I just HTFU?

  • Dan, I would search for one.  I bet they have some laying around somewhere.

  • Believe it or not, I'd even suggest emailing WTC. For as much as I've been disapointed with them lately, this is the kinda thing they've responded to quite well in the past. If they have a box of 09 IMLP Finisher's Hats sitting in a warehouse taking up space, they are gonna be more than happy to get ride of one (or two).
  • Dan,

    Every once in a while I wear the long sleeve shirt that in bought in Lake Placid in 2004.  If you can find a hat why not... Although at some point you will have to retire it but save that for 2012.

    Check the Ironman store here:  http://shopironman.com/results.cfm?store=0

  • Dan, I lost my 08 hat and I contacted them and I think it cost me $10 and the sent another 08 hat.  It's worth an email.

  • Agree with calling / emailing WTC. I trashed a finishers shirt when adding chlorine to my pool and splashing on it. Told them what happened and they sent me another shirt
  •  Okay, so I'm not crazy!  Or, maybe we're all crazy!  Thanks for the advice and encouragement.  I checked out their site (thanks Gordon) and emailed them.  No dice with the site, and I'll probably have to wait until next week for a real email about it, not just an automated one.  Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!!!!

  • After my 2008 finishers shirt got ruined my wife called then and they sent us 3 of them gratis. If anyone needs a medium one let me know.
  • glad I read this thread. I shocked my well while I was doing a load of laundry and ruined an 07 finisher's shirt. I'll give them a call.
  • I am just curious...even though this might warrent it's own forum post, but, what does everyone have against WTC? It seems to me that they are doing an outstanding job with everything...but, I AM newer to triathlon than many folks here...

    WTc, they do put on a great event - no question. More and more lately they've been leveraging their "power" to squeeze out potential competitors, going into other spaces and using their 800lb gorilla arms to move aside competitors those spaces.

    Also, it also seems like they've got no issue about licensing the Ironman name M-Dot logo to anyone with money (Ironman cologne/perfume).

    Don't get me wrong I'm for capitalism and free markets, but the WTC is starting to remind me of 90s era Microsoft.

    An outfit like Rev 3 putting on quality races helps everyone. Competition is good. Companies put out better product when they have competition, look at Nikon and Canon today pushing each other to make the next best DSLR. We need that in the Tri event space.
  • I certainly don't want this to get into a political debate, but, WTC does seem to be embracing the spirit of competition. They just seem to be better at the game than everyone else. To expect them to stop grabbing up marketshare would be like asking Kobe Bryant to stop scorring so many points in a basketball game...he won't becasue that's what he's there to do. It isn't Kobe's fault there isn't worthy competition, and we don't ask him to stop dominating the game. You cited Microsoft...well, they did dominate the 90s and now they are highly competitive with what many people would deem as a superior company, Apple. Apple exists really because Microsoft existed first and the company was formed to 'fix' the things that sucked about Microsoft. Now, there are two diametrically opposed (at least philosophically) competitors in that space and I think we are all thankful. Is Rev is smart (business-smart), they will be able to capture marketshare by filling in the gaps on what WTC drops the ball on and will come to the table as real competition...and I think that WOULD be good. For the moment though, I am just thoroughly impressed with how WTC has build their brand, expanded their marketshare, and for the most part blown up the triathlon market (they have almost done what Apple did - created the product AND the market for the product).

    Alright...enough 'politics'...I looked up a couple Rev series races...are they as well supported as the WTC events?

    If so, I would like try one later this season.
  •  @Stephen:  Please don't hijack the thread.  When I see the subject in my email, I hope to read about what I asked not wtc love/hate.  Thanks!!

  • On the topic at hand...

    Dan - I definitely am with you wanting to get another hat.  I have done 3 70.3s and haven't run in my finishers hats until recently, all because I didn't want to ruin them.  Then I realized, that's what they are for...wearing.  I have no problem wearing them until they are just broken down and 'tired', that would be kind of cool.  On the other hand, i don't want a stupid stain or anything to ruin them!

    So, i would call for sure...and hopefully they'll send you another one.  You really shouldn't have too much competition for their left over inventory!

    Good luck with it!  Let us know what the result is!

  •  They're out!!!! Just got confirmation today.  Oh well, the only other option I can see is asking the friend who talked me into it and has done IMLP 11 times... never seen him where a hat of any kind.  I'm getting desperate I guess!!!  Thanks for the words of success and encouragement.  I'll be more responsible with the next one!

  • Dan, I know this is not exactly what you are looking for, but...you should look on ebay every so often.

  •  Thanks for that!  I talked to my friend last night, he has 07 and 10 hats but can't find his 09!  Funny, he couldn't have cared less, except for his Furnace Creek 508 black hat, he said that was off limits!!!

  •  Man, I even called headsweats and they can't do it!!!  Oh well, have to do another to get one that's "officially" mine!

  • If you qualify to post on Slowtwitch's classifieds I bet you'll find one.....

  • As my friends and I tell each other...

    "you know what that means, right?"

    "time for a new bike".

    (yes, I know it's only a hat you lost, but a new bike will fix/cure just about any issue)

    YEAH!!!!!  I kept checking this thread hoping you'd find one!  Good on the folks in the ST Forums for coming through for you!

  • Cool that a few folks over there willing to hook you up. I almost want to post seeing if anyone has a finisher's medal just to liven things up a little over there. image
  •  Dan- That is great news, I was also hoping you would get one.  & from ST to boot!

    The magic of the holiday season

  •  Thanks everyone!  I was a bit surprised myself... but good Karma goes a long way.  I believe someone here gave me a fuelbelt once when I inquired about it, then I gave away my old little yellow computer to someone on ST (no HR function though, he knew about it), then I sent out a trainer wheel with tire and cassette for the cost of shipping to someone else, now the hat to me. Great stuff!!

  • This is a 4th person story from IMCozumel:

    FIRST - I woke at 5 am this morning (~4hrs sleep) wide awake and feeling good….. though a little stiff & sore…..and HUNGRY! I turned my phone on and found 40 emails, 30+ FB posts and numerous texts. Thank you all. I WAS feeling the energy and thoughts you sent. I can’t and would try to tell you all the funny sayings, advice, and smack talk from all of you that went through my head during that race…. Just realize that all of you help.

    THIS YOU HAVE TO READ
    Now…. I am sure everyone is wondering what the heck I was doing for 1+ hrs in T2 (transition from bike to run). I’ll keep this short, but the story has much more detail and is great.

    - I came off the bike feeling great.
    - My T2 bag (with shoes, visor, salt, nutrition, new socks……) was missing ….shocked does not BEGIN to describe my feelings.
    - I spent the next 30 with the volunteers going thought ALL 2300+ T2 bags checking numbers. I asked the crowd.. no size 10 running shoes.
    - I spent the NEXT 20 min at the officials tent at finish line dealing with the Mexico organizers who didn’t have my sense of urgency.
    o You have NO idea the level of frustration I hit, I nearly lost it.
    - I spent the next 10 min solving the problem
    o I walked up to the Pro triathlete (Amy) that was the US athlete helping host/run the race and was greeting the pros that were coming in.
    o I explained my problem and asked for help (she was shocked and immediately took me to race coordinator)
    o After realizing my shoes were gone…… and that I REALLY wanted to finish the race. She walked back to finish line, explained on the mic what was happening and asked the crowd if anyone had men’s size 10 running shoes.
    o The pros throw shoes, the crowd start throwing shoes onto the finish line. We had a hundred + shoes in 30 sec. (I LOVE THIS SPORT)!
    o The third pair I tried fit. (Zoot running flats that were sweaty and looked abused, I think one of the pro’s shoes)
    o I thank Amy, the crowd and sprint back to T2 to finish my race.

    Adversity had been overcome because people who do triathlon rock.

    THAT was why I had a 1:03 T2 time.

    In an effort to correct the T2 times the race guys have totally screwed up my times. Here are the times off my garmin (My real times):

    Swim = 1:16:23
    T1 = 00:08:42
    Bike = 05:59:40
    T2 = 01:03:11 (they were going to set to 5 min)
    Run = 05:04:06

    This was an awesome first Ironman……. I can’t think of anything I would have changed, including the T2 fiasco! Makes a great story!
