Giving thanks over here! (The gratitude thread.)
Okay, I'll start with the most obvious: this coffee is AWEsome.
Next level: the year of cool stuff I managed to sneak in: Lake Anna Half, Tour de Cali, Quassy Half, Roth IM, recovery week at Tour de France, misc bike racing, assorted travel, sherpa boy at Everest Challenge then a fall of cyclo, rock climbing, golf, and putting on weight.
Next level: to live in this amazing country, though I do spend at least part of every day furious at it.
THE level: My health and my relationships.
At ALMOST 50 to be able to do all of this but, really I am simply grateful to be healthy- the rest is turkey gravy.
My relationships: my family, my children, my friends. It's really all we have, really what it's all about. I finally got that through my thick Irish head.
Happy Thanksgiving, All!
Who's up?
Comments
I lost my job in January. My wife ended up going back to work and changing careers. She hated the first job but then ended up finding another that she loves. I got some governemnt funding to get some Microsoft certifications. I took a total of 9 months off. The first five of those I took care of the house and our dfaughter. I rode my bike a lot! Got my certs in June and then started looking for work. I got called for a lot of interviews. I told myself I would sign up for IMWI if I had a job by race day. I got the offer that week. WooHoo. The deal was to be on contract for three months before going on staff. I got the offer this Monday which is one month early. The kicker is that I did not ecpect to like this job as much as I do. I actually ended up at a better place than where I was before.
So much to be grateful for. I know so many people who are struggling right now. For some reason, it's all working out for me and my family.
I am grateful for a great year I had racing and training. Also grateful for my family and many friends. I am also very happy that even though we had a lot of crashes this year it seems like everyone is no worse for the wear.
Happy ThanksGiving!
I'm certainly thankful for my health! I'm thankful that I have a job that affords me the time to enjoy my hobbies... and to afford my hobbies. I'm thankful for my friends - who have put up with extended periods of absence and/or request for a rain check when I have train or travel for a race.
I'm particularly thankful for the support I've received this year as I trained for my first IM - my BF was a trooper, and the support of the chicas and the rest of the haus was unbelievable. i've made so many friends this year, and have been lucky enough to meet some of you (at Eagleman, Wisconsin, Florida)... it's been such a fun year. I look forward to the 2011 season and meeting more of you in person and online!
I'm also thankful that Ihave a significant other who gets me for the most part. And understands my goals and dreams, even though he doesn't share them, he supports me in my pursuit of them.
Do what's right.
Be grateful.
Help others.
Grateful today for friends like you, my awesome family, my health and the ability and opportunity to do the things I love with some wicked cool people.
You all enrich my life. Thank you.
We are all so fortunate in many different ways!
At the top of my list is my gratefulness for my lifelong partner and wife, Sylvia. We celebrated 25 years of marriage. We married for better or for worse, richer or for poorer, in sickness or in health. We have both had our health issues, but none as scary as the one my wife is facing now. She begins chemo in the next couple of weeks.
Despite her struggle, I am extremely grateful for those in the health profession that deal with those with illnessess every day! I am particularly grateful for finding the path to the Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center. They have been GREAT and will help restore my baby's health!
I'm grateful that I can do "cool things with cool people"! Particularly it is cool to be part of the EN Family. Cool to see the EN Top Secret hand signal flashed at me at the Finish Line on my first IM. Cool to be able to flash the EN Top Secret hand signal to fellow team members and support them during races! Cool to receive support, input, and guidance! EN ROCKS!
Chris, it is even cool to participate in triathlons after 50 years old!!!!
Bryan, Love your 7 words you use to guide your life!
I'm also grateful for RnP...for putting this website together, this team together, sharing their expertise and sharing their knowledge!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!
Blessings upon you all (and AMEN!)
Sorry I missed this.
Coffee is awesome and should always be #1 on a lists of things that are awesome.
Couldn't agree more about health and relationships (though I'm still waiting for my hug from Rich).
We need to ride together this spring.
I'm grateful for Chris Malone.
So much to be grateful for here. Coffee is the best and so is this team. I'm still amazed at the friendships I've developed through EN. I am actually pretty anti-social. I came here to train and did not expect the group! I was so much fun to meet so many of you at Madison this year.
I'm also grateful for how things have worked out for me personally this year. I was laid off in January and now am in a new job that I actually love. I told myself that if I had a job by IMWI I would sign up. I got the offer that week! Karin is also in a job that she is happy with and Clare is a great kid who is healthy and doing well, in general.
It's all good.
I really truly don't need anything. I have an awesome husband, Elly, two terrific kids, a job that is challenging and doesn't make me too mental, a goofy dog that eats anything (including the drywall) and obviously trialthon and this new team which I really enjoy.
This is the second or third Christmas where Elly and I have not exchanged gifts. It's pretty great and liberating. The kids get presents, and we do stockings for each other, but there are no sweaters, jewellry, stuff like that.
Cause it's just stuff.
Happy holidays to everyone
Jane
