Are there rules? or pirate guidelines?
E.g., does the secret Santa identify him/herself to the girt recipient? I've seen it work both ways. Me, I intend to sign my name to the gift card, unless instructed not to.

I already sent a Christmas Card to the recipient with a note about the gift because it will not get there by Christmas. I sent a note to Dana Weigel (sender of e-mail notifying us of the recipient) asking her if she thought it would be okay and she agreed.

If you look at Patricks first post he says:
"Folks, just a quick preliminary poll to see if you would be interested in playing along. The rules are simple you sign up with your email/mailing address and commit to spending about $20 on a "gift" for someone else on the Team, to be delivered before 12/25/10.
RnP match folks behind the scenes, and ensure that it remains a total secret.
You get your HOliday spirit on and make people happy...
Let us know if you are in and I'll fire up a forum to sign up!
Patrick"
Based on this I am guessing it is to remain a secret but we could in fact do some guessing.

I read this to mean that total secret like, we aren't posting the names to the forum, instead we will send you an email to surprise your person. I signed my name to the gift, cause I think it's a good way to get to know other people on the team that you might not know (i.e. hey! weren't you my secret santa!). I'm sure it's not a big deal either way.
I read it the way Tucker read it. My gift is in the mail signed only as "Secret Santa".
With that in mind, I don't think anyone would have a hard time figuring out who Santa was if they really wanted too unless we each went so far as to put "the North Pole" as the return address :-)
How did you find out who you were matched to? Haven't received anything. I don't mind if I was left out unintentially, but would feel bad if I received something, but didn't get to send anything out.
@Kevin, we received an email from Dana Wiegel, Patrick's assistant. On a side note, Patrick has an assistant now? Guess he is big time now! Maybe check your spam or junk folder? Or send Patrick an email asking him if you are in.
As for telling others that you were your secret Santa, I see no problem with it. I didn't, but fairly certain he/she will know it was from me. I was merely pointing out what Patrick had originally proposed. But since we are self-coached athletes I am sure we can self coach our secret santa.
THere's no "list". On the second page of this Thread, Coach P posted a "Sign Up for Secret Santa Here" Link. You signed up using that link. A few days ago, those who signed up through the link received an email from Dana saying "here's your person and their address".

Dana...please resend!
LOL..OK. That price limit was the "rule" I was looking for which I'm accepting as a guideline actually so I went over a little....sorry....
I think the discussion is almost as much fun as the SS gifts....
@ Nemo, where did you find the list? I have looked through the thread many times and don't see the list. Many thanks, Greg
