New Member - Questions

This site is awesome!!

I am just feeling my way around here - couple of questions.

Are the training plans included in the monthly fee?

Also I see this OS program - I am looking to start my off season training in the next couple of weeks. My first A race will be Mooseman - does the OS transition into the HIM program?

Do I need a Compu Trainer for the OS? I am thinking of buying a Power Tap if needed - any recommendations?

  • Yes, training plans are included.

You can manually adjust your training program. I'm not sure if it will automatically adjust. Someone else can answer that more intelligently than myself.

You certainly don't need a CT. In fact, you don't even need a power meter of any kind as the plans give you guidance with or without a power meter. I prefer the crank based power meters like Quarq over PowerTap but that's just my personal preference.
  • Bill -

    Welcome!

If you haven't already seen this wiki page (http://members.endurancenation.us/Resources/Wiki/tabid/108/Default.aspx?topic=Getting+Started), check out all the links in it, especially the season planning toolkit. You hace access to ALL the EN plans training plans, and can change from one to another whenever you wish, under the "Training" item on the far left of the menu above.

Look here and here for some initial info on buying and using using power to train and race. If you want to buy a PowerTap (which will work with ANY trainer, dont need a CompuTrainer), email Rich through this forum link; you'll get super seervice and a discount.

  • There's good guidance in the wiki for stacking training plans across a season. The short answer is that yes, the OS will prepare you well to transition to a HIM plan for Mooseman.

Many folks here train with a power tap and a conventional trainer. Others have and love their computrainer. Highly individual sort of thing.

    Welcome!

Yes the training plans are included.

If you are looking to start the OS soon then go to the training tab, my training plan and change your plan to the OS, its 20 weeks so you would need to calculate when you want your plan to end. It does not transistion to the HIM plan you have to do that yourself but that is where the forum and coaches are the key. You can ask when you you go to your HIM plan given your race dates. You might want to do that first to see when you should end  your OS.

You do not need a CT to do this or a powermeter but the PM is an awesome tool that you will soon realize that its worth every penny. Most poeple on here have powertap but you can decide for yourself. Could place to start is here http://members.endurancenation.us/C...fault.aspx

    Good Luck and Welcome

  • In case you don't have access to the wiki, you should scan down the trial forum as RnP have posted some of the wiki articles mentioned above into the forum so that the trial members could see them.
  • General rule...stay in OS as long as possible, and whenever possible. With the new structure of the OS, outlined in wiki as 'blocks" of training inside the 20 weeks, you should add this speed work whenever you have 10+ weeks until race time.

Believe me, OS volume is plenty until race rehearsal #1 at 6 weeks out...maybe just make the weekend ride longer with some z2-3 time and be sure to get all 60 min of the Wed run. Then, and only then (6-8 weeks out), you can switch to the HIM plan. I have done that 2 times and it has been outstanding!
  • Man, you guys are crushing it with the answers...thanks folks!!!!
