Update: EN Community Standards (A Must Read Doc)
Folks, with the addition of so many new members, RnP have decided to blow the whistle. That's right...you heard me:
EVERYBODY GET OUT OF THE POOL AND LISTEN UP!
Seriously, there are so many super cool and amazing things about EN, but it can be lost in the constant workout updates and daily maneuverings. At the end of the day, you have joined one very large, admittedly dysfunctional but fun regardless, online FAMILY. Learning the baseline rules of how we all connect is an essential part of your membership experience.
We have updated and re-released the official EN Community Standards Doc to the wiki. Please read it when you get a chance and feel free to discuss below...thanks!!!

Sad commentary that this kind of thing is necessary, I suppose. Thanks for posting, and nothing like a good dose of common sense for all.
Good stuff, RandP. Resetting with this "baseline rules" doc is perfect! New folks, lotsa growth, lots to learn and a lot of fun can confuse some. This ain't no Slowtwitch, thank God! I am faster than some WSM's but they are all way smarter than me! Glad they are here to dispense their knowledge. What would we do without Al, Mancona, Nemo and the rest?
Thanks for doing this.

@Tim, this isn't in response to a crisis. PnI just woke up after all of the admin work we've been doing recently, to include 2x IM appearances this month, and realized that we hadn't created a formal process for dialing new members into the community, expectations, etc. This is that process.
Just want to say that, as a new member, one of the things I like most about EN is that while the Manifesto is welcome to give some order to the team, it wasn't necessary in the sense that it was sparked by any spat or event or anything. Which (I think) is a testament to the culture that has grown up here -- it's one of, if not the most civil and friendly groups I've been a part of, both online and in the real world! I can't wait to meet some of y'all in person!
@Bev, no, sorry, as we don't want to have to manage multiple copies of the same seminar.
I think this is just as good for the vets...myself definitely included. It's good for us all to get re-grounded from time to time and remember what makes the En forums/community work.
Well done. Required reading for all of us every year.
This is well done. All organizations need a shared set of values. Over the years RnP have done a great job of making EN a safe place and the anti slowtwitch.
Uhhh...no.
You have an upfront licence to post any question you want anywhere in the forum and the team will answer it. If they don't, politely bump it. If you absolutely need to have RnP answer it, and it pertains specifically to THIS WEEK or BIG PICTURE stuff, then it goes in the Micro or Macro Thread.
But there is a fine line between reaching out to a peer directly and bugging the shit out of said peer with an endless stream of PM's, emails, etc. WSM's are your peers, recognized by your peers as being supersmart, helpful, and deserving of an added measure of respect. It's not their job, and they have not volunteered, to be unpaid assistant coaches.
That's my job and Patrick's job but the terms of service are that you ask these questions in the forum, not via PM or email. XXX of you, 2 of us, it just wouldn't work. That said, I challenge you to find two coaches in the tri-space who are more johnnyonthespot with feedback than RnP. Going on my 5th hour in a Starbucks on a Friday, this is, quite literally, all we do.
Cool, a manifesto, just like the '60's!
Seriously, these precepts are the foundation of one of the two reasons I stick with EN (the other is the coaching expertise here). I feel likeI've finally found a home in triathlon.
To quote from the '60's (the last thing the Beatles ever put down on vinyl): The love you take is equal to the love you make.
Well said my friend!!! And why isn't Al a WSM yet? :-)
It's good to write it down - and well done as much as you both say you're not big on writing. I will say, that since I joined in late 2007/early 2008 I have never been treated with anything but respect even though I am old and slow and don't have the time to participate as much as I'd like. This group got me through my first IM last year - something I wasn't sure that I'd ever be able to do, and they always listen when I have something to say. I've learned more about our sport in the last couple of years than I had in the previous 10 years. I hope I can contribute to others reaching their own goals. Thanks
Very good read.
