Newbie and first Bike Test

OK so I started the Dec OS today since I have a half marathon next weekend, shuffled the days in order to get in the tests and key workouts.  Don't have power yet, did the thing on the trainer, and my 40' TT LTHR was 151, thing is during races I held right at 160 for the Oly distance. Didn't feel wasted at the end and so I have a feeling I screwed up the starting pacing.

Last week I did two of the bike workouts and held things in the 158-162 without too much trouble at all.

BTW: I like pain on the bike and always have and so am looking forward to the pain cave.

Thoughts/reactions?

Paul - These two data points indicate your FTP is somewhat north of 160, probably up to 8% higher. Either you didn't use your max potential on the test and/or the time of day may have been an issue. (See this current thread on impact of time of day on ability to raise HR during workouts.

Given your focus on the half marathon coming up, you may just want to use an estimated higher number for you workouts over the next fw weks, until you feel ready to do another test.
