making the most of new gym at the office

My new office will have a onsite health centre with all the toys.  I'm stoked.

I'll probably keep the SBR stuff to evenings and weekends, but I'd like to try to leverage this new facility a few times a week.  What would you suggest as the best use of, say, three weekly 'found' lunchhours?  At this point, I'm thinking of making each of these sessions core / flexibility / pullcords / done.  Maybe the occassional IT rolling when it gets to the silly season.  Anything else?

  • That's Awesome!!! Core, stability, stretching, and rolling are perfect for the office gym at lunch. You won't get too sweaty, you can be in & out in an hour (including changing cloths) and you get the benefit of some personal maintenance stuff that often gets lost when the season really gets rolling.
  •  Can I have a job there???? That sounds awesome.  My work (school) just shut down their pool indefinitely due to cost!!!  Killing me, we were one of 2 districts in the area that had one.  Such a waste.

  • Dave-
I'm sort of in a unique spot but I do a ton of the OS runs at work when I'm not getting interrupted by calls then I pretty much always lock myself down for 15-18 or so minutes of core work/flexibility stuff A w/u 3x1 m and core stuff are totally doable over a lunch hour. It is a weird (but good) feeling getting paid to workout. I've definitely cut my run volume this OS vs last but I have a place and a time where I get it done.
  • Lucky you!!! All we have at work is a small bar fridge...important for carb reloading after hard concerts.

  • @Dave, yes to the core stuff. Stay tuned as we have contracted with leigh to have some new core/maintenance workouts coming out in January!
  • I am doing one of my OS bike rides on the bike at the gym. It has a watts setting (not sure how accurate, but doesn't seem to be too far off) It saves time from going home to ride on the trainer at lunch. I also do most of my speed work on the treadmill at work. I find its softer than running outside and you can control the speed for the intervals better. I usually set it to 1 or 1.5% slope.

  • I am doing some bike rides using a spin bike at work as well. The watts come up much higher than what I see in powermeter at home, but I figure as long as I am consistent with the level of effort, I should be okay. It's certainly nice to get the workout done early in the day. I also do most of the runs on treadmill with 1% incline.
