Timo Bracht - what the heck is this guy eating (IM AZ setup)

Saw some pics of Timo's race setup:

What the heck are those melted powerbar looking things on his bike and how are they staying on there?  And what's the black thing behind the CO2 dispenser, or is that a hand pump I see?

  • Can't beat eating something that can stick to your bike on its own while traveling 25+ mph. Makes my stomach queasy looking at it.
  • Hmm...I noted those same things on the same bike in this video production from Ironman Germany 2010 and had the same thought. The pic is about 30 seconds into the video. I have no clue what that goop is, but now I know who's bike it was. Nice to know that I'm riding the same frame but without electronic shifting.

  • @ Adam - yep, that sure looks like a hand pump with two tire levers. Maybe he's had a bad experience with CO2, but that's pretty unusual to see a top pro with that on his bike.
  • Great bike, but wtf.
  • Looks like mooshed up powerbars. I know old school MTBers use that method, but ick! Pretty funny to see the hand pump too! But hey- maybe he's been talking to Chrissy :-)

I just like the way his name rhymes with mine :-)
  • I volunteered at LP in the Transition zone for the 2008 race. I saw a couple of pro bikes peppered with Powerbar chunks all over the top tube. Gross. Can't even think about the bugs stuck to them after the fast descent to Keene. Yuck.
  • I race with a small carbon fiber handpump along with CO2 cartridges - JIC. It weighs the same as four sips of water, and less than a second cartridge. But it does take 250 pumps to fill my 650/23 tires!
