Graston technique? Anyone ever have it done
Anyone ever have Graston technique done? thoughts on it? Was it painful? Did it help? Is it better than ART?
Leigh- I think you have suggested it in the past for people?
I am recovering from a partial posterior tibial tendon tear( not sure of the grade, but according to OS, it was pretty messed up).I was in a Boot for about 5 weeks & had PT. I just finished PT, but no manual therapy was done on my foot. I have had a few massages on it, working on Leigh's ATA stuff, but my foot ROM still feels somewhat restricted. I am able to run, doing a slow progression. I did 1.2 mile on treadmill at PT to meet last PT goal. I am good running straight ahead, but if i have to turn or cut, my foot doesn't like it much.
Other thing i need work on to improve fxn is my dorsi flexion, my injured side is now equal to noninjured side, but both sides are restricted at 3-4 dregrees. I have been stretching!
I have an ART provider, but they don't do graston, was thinking about finding someone that does Graston and ART, if possible. Is it worth it?

really great for soft tissue restrictions that have been around a bit (1+ month). A lot of chiro's are both ART and graston (some PT's too). It's a great combo. my only other advice would be joint mobs to get that ankle ROM back.
done any homework to see who's near you and does what??
Thanks Leigh, after I posted, I found a chiro not far from here that does both ART and Graston. I did get a little concerned reading a nonfavorable review of graston ( ie no good evidenced based reviews etc) my other concern was the potential to cause more inflammation ( and possible set back?)
May give the new chiro a call next week
Ankle mobs- something I can do myself? I have been doing some patella mobs lately
re: the ankle mobs. Yup, you can definitely do those at home. actually planning to do a video tomorrow on the ankle so stay tuned Monday.
Great thanks JT and Leigh! I definitely have crunchy tissue in my foot/arch. While much better, sometimes still gets sore after a 12 hr shift.

Update: I did have the graston done on my lower leg. I think it will helped, but time will tell. There was some discomfort at times, but he covered a several areas on lower leg. My Talus does not have same mobility, so he was working on that mobility. The surprising thing is my achilles was more restricted than posterior tibial.
make sure you're icing a few times a day following that graston whether it feels good or not. part of the treatment is to stir up that inflammation process again.
Why am I not surprised.
As a patient, I can say first hand that it is effective.
