Home October '09 OutSeason

So I just realized...

That our next week of testing falls on the week of Thanksgiving!  Oh, and I was so looking forward to that holiday week.  Now I'm terrified!  I think the first tests during week one were not so scary for me because I'm an EN newbie and had nothing to prove.  After 8 weeks I want to see some better numbers, darn it!  At least the testing is at the beginning of the week, and won't interfere with my traditional weekend after Thanksgiving leftover eat-a-thon.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, and let's all finish out week 5 strong!

  • @Kristen: I am sure you will test just fine. In fact we are all going to crush our numbers that week. Just think of the roasted bird and pies as a special treat for working so hard over the past 7 weeks.

    Pete
  • You are right, Pete.  I may work just that little bit harder for an extra serving of pie!

  • I totally agree with Pete! What a perfect set up?!?! We get the best recovery food EVER! (I often think a TG repeat is in order after IM and tell my family that...hasn't resulted in a repeat yet...but I digress). I'm considering doing our local Turkey Trot for my test to see if the competitive atmosphere pushes me a little harder. Haven't ever done that race, and this might be just the time to do it.

We all WILL crush our numbers that week...cuz we're sticking to our plans and getting our work done now....riiiiiighhhhht?? Accountability check in tomorrow kids. Finish off this week right!

I for one can feel my legs after this mornings work....and I've got some sort of odd thing going on with my left foot. Feels like when I broke my toe last TG, but I haven't whacked on anything this time???? HUH!? Strange but not limiting at this point.....

    O
  • I signed up for the Turkey Trot on the 21st for my VDOT test. Since I'm soooooo new to this and still very confused and trying to lose about 40 lbs.....it will be fun to see if I have improved my pathetically low VDOT. I didn't have the PT for the FTP testing but I'm hovering around 139 for the NP. I have noticed a tick up on the last two bike rides so I hope to see a FTP that I'm not totally ashamed of.

My 17 yo daughter bonded with me yesterday on the hill repeats. She is a 7.5' miler and ran slow with her momma but on the way home she said, "Mom....keep it up and you will finally conquer the Ironman and if you go to Kona, I'm going with you!!" I had to laugh there is not a snowball's chance in hell I'm ever going to Kona but it was sweet. Who knows what I can do when I get the equivalent to a bag of rock salt of my arse.....
  • Awww. Sheryl, that is so cute! I love what your daughter sees in you. Commitment, dedication, strength, and most important….triumph! So sweet! And it’s great that you can run with her some.

Good on ya for getting the Turkey Trot on the books….I’m still holding back on committing. Not sure why really. Except maybe I’m afraid that I will suck at it. 4 miles seems long, whereas 5K seems less long. (whatever) It would probably be fun though! Maybe by EOD I can make up my mind…you can be my inspiration!
  • Kristen: I'm dealing with somewhat re-arranging my schedule to fit things in during the TG week with not upsetting things too much like at least a 48 hour recovery between the harder workouts. I like the Turkey Trot idea. I'll be in Sedona looking for a 5K in the area. Races always bring out the best in athletes so expect a great time as you're picking people off in the last mile.

Sheryl: I've got a 17 year old daughter too who runs. What a cool experience and parent payday. We all need our cheer leaders and those individuals that truly believe in us. When it's your daughter, double bonus.

Pete and Olivia: I like your thinking about the TG meal being a recovery meal. The trick for me is finding some type of moderate so I don't feel like a stuffed pig needing a wheel chair to ambulate after feasting.
  • Sheryl, That's great that you can run with your daughter!  Also, it's nice sometimes to have the challenge of running with someone faster than ourselves, no matter how "fast" you are.  My sister always pushes me, and I try to run with her whenever I can.  If I can talk her into it, I may challenge her to a 2x1.5 mile duel on Sunday.

Olivia, your tooth story gave me the shivers.  What an unlucky way to fall!  I live in fear of extensive dental work.  I loved your orthodontist story from this week.

My Thanksgiving week schedule is going to be all messed up.  I will probably test on Sunday and Tuesday, then have a 10k turkey trot on Thursday, and then my parents are coming into town Friday to celebrate Thanksgiving a day late.  What a week!  I can't wait, though.

    Have a great day, everyone!

  • Great list!  I also love how, under next week's training goals, it states:

"Three days off this week, as preparation for your 2nd round of tests next week. TAKE ALL THREE DAYS OFF!"

    Uh, OK!

I love how I just realized tonight that there are training goals....duh....

  • Don't worry, Sheryl, I just saw it last week.
