Configuring My Joule...

Am officially on the road bike as ergomo is on the outs...and I am not sure how in the world to set up my FTP. Running parallels, my Joule connects to my Mac via poweragent...I download then drag over to WKO on the PC side. But in PowerAgent the zones are straight up dumb and I can't seem to config. Any help???

  • To set-up FTP on PA, click on the litle figure icon under the word File.  Then in the pop-up window (Edit User: {you}) choose the Power Zones tab.

In my PA in the same tab I can double-click (Windows) the power zone number and change.

Is this what you are looking for?

  • I would think that yours would have the latest software in it but i had to update in order to set FTP. Before I did it just had 5 min and 30 minute maxes to set the zones.

Should be interesting to see if there is a difference between the ergomo and the pt?
  • Have you tried connecting the Joule to the Windows side directly? Skip the transfer betwen operaing systems? I'm interested in the outcome of this thread, as I will have the same issue once I finally get my bike back from the frame repair hospital. (TT bike with the PT is 650, road bike is 700!)

  • What John said. FYI, I'm using Poweragent in Mac to download my PT files. I'll probably install WKO on Joanne's now old Windows laptop (she's using my old Mac) and maintain my files over there.

My PT added ~25w to my Ergomo watts...very nice when it works out that way

  • coach P:

i had the same problem until i updated with the latest firmware.  poweragent software for windows does not work with windows 7, so use XP version of windows.

after the above is established, then the poweragent should respond and save any changes you make in terms of entering FTP.  i did have to set my own zone ranges manually for both power and HR, since it kept giving me wack numbers.

finally, i only use the poweragent these days to download the file from joule.  then i highlight the workout and 'export activity' to a file on my desktop.  once in this file, i open wko, select new workout, open the desktop file, and then drag over the workout, ERGOMO style, onto the wko and it all appears in wko.

this has worked best for me and i hope the above makes sense.

  •  GH,

You could export the file directly to your user in WKO+ to save you a step or two.

  • Hayes: roger that. 10-4.

  • x2 on what Hayes said... I spent an eternity last night downloading all software.  I successfully loaded my first workout into poweragent (despite having windows 7 - didn't know that was an issue), but no luck exporting to WKO+.

After this morning's ride I went to WKO/Training Peaks and imported directly from the device, skipping the poweragent download step altogether (hopefully I did it right and it's still there).  It wasn't completely intuitive, but I haven't spent any time learning the ropes of training peaks or WKO...

I'm a newbie at this power thing (and haven't listened to the last podcast re: how to read the power charts), do I need the poweragent view at all?  I figured we "had:" to buy the WKO software so it's more important to store my workouts there... right?

  • I have Windows 7 and use WKO and PA without issue.   Never had a problem.  May be your  firewall settings?

@Patrick - In talking to Tom Glynn, he has issues with devices on his Mac/Windows config using USB.  He has ditched tinkering with the Mac and uses his old Windows XP PC now for WKO stuff like Rich noted.

@Becky - Yes, you need WKO.

  • I'm on a old PT pro, think 2004 vintage and directly download/store into WKO+ running Vista on my PC. No problems with this arrangement.
  • John/GH,

I think the win7 issue has to do with 32 vs. 64 bit. You can't update your Joule firmware on a 64 bit box.

I had to install PowerAgent on an old laptop (running win7 but 32 bit) to update to 14.063 firmware. There is info on an ST thread about this specific issue.
