Treadmill purchase?

 Hi Gang,

I am looking for any and all input on what the best treadmill would be to purchase and have in my pain cave.

Thanks, Mike

  • Woodway.
On a different level price wise (higher) than most others but really nice. I've been on them at the gym and they spoil you for running on the others.
  • I am looking at the Sole F80 right now and it gets high reviews as well.

I think there is a site called treadmill doctor or something like that who does reviews.

    Good luck

  • Price insensitive = Woodway.

They are not cheap, but they are like nothing you have ever run on before.

  • Use the treadmill doctor website to pick out one in the $1000 - 1500 range. If in doubt, the Sole F80 is always a standby. A key question is if your Vdot is eve going to be north of 52 or so, meaning you could benefit from speeds above 10 mph. Otherwise, even cheaper options kick in.

I have the Horizon T1200, which has been awesome for me, especially picking it up for less than 700 bones...
  • Thanks ALL!

I'll keep you posted, going to test drive a few over the next week or so.

  • I just got a True PS100 and love it.  I would go demo a few you have it narrowed down to from your research.  I ran on several True's and Precors and found that many of the higher end treadmills had too much cushioning for my taste.  The quick speed keys are a nice feature.  Good luck.

  • I have the Sole F80 and love it, I am a big guy and it has served me well.

I am almost 100 percent certain that is the one I am going with, waiting for a check to come it to go get it.

  • Lots of good info here in the old 3.0 forums.

I second the Woodway. I cannot afford at this time, so I run on the ones at the gym. Wonderful running on them, with such reduced impact.  A friend of mine is a trainer for the Celtics, and their training center is in my gym. He once let me run on their top, top of the line Woodway, which is better than the ones on the gym floor. Like running on pine needles. If only... image

  • @Mike, you are going soft on us!!! image Get outside! image
  • @Coach P: Mike G is a very special case in that he LOVES the drainer/dreadmill. He uses an old coping mechanism from college days; he's a sick puppy.
  • Yup, I'm all treadmill, all the time, this time of year. Looking forward to the Vdot test coming up!!!
  • Ordered: Nordictrack Commercial 1750- headaches with delivery so cancelled

Looked at: Sole F80- no bottle holder, Nordictrack 1500 a bit stiff, True (too expensive for us) (1st 2 also had iFit which we don't need)

Purchased: Lifespan TR4000, Arrives in 1 week from local dealer. Can NOT wait!
  • FWIW- I just got the January issue of Consumer Reports and as usual, it contains reviews on exercise equipment, including treadmills. They break the ratings up into "Folding" and "Non Folding". Here's a quick summary:

    Folding
Recommended: Precor 9.31, Landice L7 Cardio Trainer
CR Best Buys: PaceMaster Planinum Pro VR, AFG 13.0 AT, Vision T19200 Simple

    Non Folding
Top Rated (but not recommended): Spirit XT 485, Tru PS75
CR Best Buys: Horizon T202, ProForm 590T, Horizon T101, Gold's Gym Crosswalk 570

One dishonorable mention: They specifically call out the Best Fitness BFT1 as a model to NOT purchase. Apparently the incline feature malfunctioned on 2 out of 3 of these treadmills tested.
