Urban trail running
I woke up for this morning's run, and it was pouring rain outside. I had planned on a 2 hour run, so I decided to put in motion a plan I've been scheming for a couple of weeks - mall parking structure running. Just 5 minutes away is a pretty big shopping mall, with a 3 story parking structure (ok, it's really 4 stories, but the top one is an exposed roof). I put on my hydration pack, and just started running - up, and down, and up, and down. Each 'lap' was taking me between 10-12 minutes to go from my car up to the 3rd floor and back.
I did two laps for a warmup, then started my OS prescribed 2x2 miles. I used a HR monitor, since the GPS didn't work with all that concrete between me and the satellites.
I got some bewildered looks, but since I was there early (5:45am) there were not many cars - though more employees started arriving around 7.
But in the end, I got 2 hours of hill work in, while there was a downpour, but I was dry. Hmmm, actually, I was soaked. I was sweating pretty good, and the humidity was pretty close to 100% (but it was only like 55 degrees). But it was WAY better than being out in the storm, or out on the roads.

Tell me you weren't running at Valley Fair...

Update - It's 30+ hours after my run, and my foot is still sore. I've heard people say that running on concrete is hard on the feet, and I think I would agree. And it's not just an ache, it's a throbbing hurt - not good.

Mike, it was like 48 degrees. That is balmy weather for our friends back East. They would say HTFU and go run in the rain on the road. And I would agree. Love running in the rain.
Seriously, good work. You are being creative.
Yes, concrete sucks. I avoid at almost all costs.
FYI - I am signing up for Redwood this week and AR50 as well if I can't get in as a safety runner.
