The Thread of Truth: Did you keep your 2010 resolutions?

I'll start.

I resolved that in 2010 I would:

-get more sleep.   (Check).

-enjoy the sport instead of chasing numbers.  (Check, until negative check in August cancelled that out).

-get body composition right.  (Fail).

You?  Don't make me poull the thread from last year and hold y'all accountable.

  • Dave, Thank You so much for bringing this up.  I needed to look back and see this as I have been so caught up in the outcome of certain events that I failed to look back at this and the bigger picture.  4.5 out of 5 means I had a pretty good year!

Here is what I said my 2010 goals/priorities were and the results:

    1. Enjoy the year with my wife and baby - Check, we absolutely did this!

    2. Have fun and not be stressed out over calories, numbers, training and racing like last year - Check, I missed a few workouts, gained a few pounds, but in the end raced way more and even won a few races overall for the first time therefore having much more fun.

    3. enjoy a vaction in Hawaii (and execute well at a race while there) - Half checked, we had a great time and really enjoyed our time before and after the race.  As far as the race, I sitll have mixed fealings there

    4. Fix my swim - Check, I definitely improved and went from a 37' to 31' HIM swim and also from a 1:12 IM calm swim in a wetsuit  to a 1:08 IM swim in the ocean with no wetsuit or speedsuit.  I still need to improve more though to be competitive

    5. Be ready for 2011 when I get forcused again - Check, my internal issues with my Kona race may have been one of the best things that could have happened to me.  It made me realize a lot about myself and ultimately I had to re-assess what I was doing and what I was going to do going forward.  The outcome of this is I'm fired up and ready to see what I can really do over the next two years.

Thanks agan for bringing this up.  Looks like we need to a 2011 resolution/goals thread soon.

  • hmmmm, I don't usually do the "resolution" thing. However I do generally set goals. That said, since I can't even remember what the goals were, I'm gonna guess I get a big F

From a triathlon perspective, this time last year I know I just wanted to get to the starting line of IMWI in good enough shape to enjoy the day with the Chicas. I did that. In fact, I had a blast all year.
  • I was successful in my single goal for 2010:

No gummi products and no wonka products

    (unfortunately I am not kidding)

I had one slip up with a few gummi worms that were forced on me by a friends mother who didn't realize I was on the wagon. I plan on celebrating by eating the entire 4 # bag of gummi bears that Brad was kind enough to bring with him when he visited us in august.

My goal is that it was going to help me lose weight (I eat way to much sugar). Unfortunately that really didn't work. Too many crepes I think.

    -Dave

  • Too many crepes I think.

    And Cakes
  • If I remember correctly my resolved to a) become an Ironman, b) buy a fish from a buck at Broadway Asian Foods.

Totally rocked a). May need another year to work up the bravery for b). =-)
  • Great thread!

I too wanted to stop chasing numbers and really experience IMWI---done! I'm still so stinking happy about that race.

I wanted to lose at least 10 lbs---which I did (12 lbs exactly), but after having gained 12 lbs over the winter. Pffft!
Dave, I've declared a moratorium on cake and crepe in Chateau de Kevtima at least until after OS. Let's see how long that lasts! Ha!
