striders...ugh.

Am I the only one that hates doing striders?  I have hated them since I ran CC ~20 years ago.  Still hate them.  To be honest, sometimes I skip them.  Is it just me?

  • Honestly, I really enjoy them. Kinda like blowing out the carbon from an engine.

Any chance you're doing them too hard? It's not supposed to be a pure sprint...
  •  I dont mind then either, but then I do not really do them all that much either.

  • I look forward to em... It's an opportunity to go fast/work hard (read: feel powerful) without getting tired. Also, done properly, it's the best time to work on running form. I pretend I'm Michael Johnson, who had such a distinctive upright carriage while winning double Olympic gold in 200/400.
  • Striders can be a little tough if you happen to be stiff that day, but they shouldn't be something you dread. They should be run "quick" as opposed to a sprint or "hard" pace. I've done them for over three decades as a means to loosen up and to shovel in additional speedwork without significantly increasing odds of injury. Typically, the total time invested in striders during a run should only be 2 to 3 minutes (e.g., 10 x 15 seconds, 8 x 20 seconds, or 6 x 30 seconds, etc). So you can do them up to 3 times a week and still be putting less than 10 mins of additional quality into your week. In EN logo - that's high ROI for little effort.
