How are you all dealing with New Year's Day workouts?

Team, since RnP are out of commission, I was curious what you all were doing this week, in relation to New Year's Day.  I've got a scheduled day off on Friday (NY Eve) and Sunday, with my testing the next week.

I'll be honest - there's no way I'm going to be getting up at 5AM to workout New Year's Day.

My Plan??   I was going to forgo the off day on Friday, do the brick on Friday, take Saturday off, and maybe run an easy 30' on Sunday.

Curious what is everyone else doing?

  • Mike,
That sounds like a good plan to me.
For myself, I'm neck deep in the Winter Run Challenge, so all the scheduled stuff is in the chipper.
    Mike
  • I'm not going out on NYE so I will be sticking to the plan. Saturday morning's workout is gonna be a killer too.

  • I'm planning on running the local Hangover Handicap five mile race on New Year's Day so will flop the Saturday and Sunday workouts. And in order to get my money's worth on Saturday's run I will be planning on trying to hit Z4 or better for the entire race.
  • I'm planning to do the Resolution Run here in Seattle, which is a 5k. I'm hoping to raise my vdot since I think I had a bad test last time. Then I'm going to move my bike workout to Sunday.
  • I don't drink (anymore) and nobody admits to being my friend :-( so I will have no trouble for NYE or NYD!!

I'll leave all the drinking, puking and foolery to all the youngin's - I did my part for way too many years, I'm glad thats over......

    Boogie till you puke!
  • I'm going to sleep in, wait until the temperature hits 70 (high of 76 on Saturday), go ride an easy hour and get in a moderate 5 mile brick run all the while reminding myself that right now, it's all about losing weight! Then, off to see a movie with the famly.
  • I'm riding a 205k brevet in PA. That should cover any called for workout.
  • Not overly worried. Will drag myself through a 5k in costume and then run into the ocean per the annual polar plunge guidelines. will be a heatwave this year- 40 degrees! image
  • I don't have plans for NYE, so I'm in for the local Hangover Half. It doesn't start until noon, so I also get to sleep in!
  • TBD based on amount of booze and tom-foolery I have Friday night. Whatever I end up doing, it looks like it'll be on the drainer and the dreadmill (I'm a wuss for cold).
  • I think an EN challenge would be to do the workout as planned, but instead of water in your bottle you pick an adult beverage of your choosing. You'll minimize the impact of the hangover by adding a stabilizing beverage (think of the reason for morning bloody mary's or mimosa) plus be working out the toxins consumed the night before (sweating). Seems like the perfect NYE/NYD combination.
  • Mike, sounds like as good a plan as any! I'm doing today's bike tomorrow (on my day off), probably skipping Saturday, and doing Saturday's bike on Sunday. I'm in an OS SNAFU period now anyway with a mild injury and work travel next week, so I'm just hanging on the best I can and doing whatever makes sense for me.

  • I have an annual 11 miler sufferfest run with Team Psycho on Saturday...do I do the Sat workout on Friday or push it to Sunday?
  • @Scott, I'll be doing the Seattle Resolution Run too. I'm NOT doing the plunge however; that looked painful last year.
  • I was going swap out the Saturday/Sunday workouts, sort of:

Polar Bear Plunge at Asbury Park (NJ) + run that afternoon.

    Bike ride on Sunday.

  • I always like to get in a workout on New Year's day. Even if it is a short jog or bike. I think we are going to get my Garmin at PT on the bike today and go for a ride tomorrow. I'm not on a training schedule yet, to don't have to worry about that yet.
  • I am doing my JAN OS week #1 bike test on New Year's Day. It will be an early New Year's Eve for us. We (the fam) are going to a Ducks vs Flyers game and then back home to hang with some friends for a couple of hours - then I check out. New Year's will come while I am fast asleep dreaming about the pain waiting for me the next morning. :-D
  • @Shannon, I'm glad there's another ENer doing the Seattle Resolution Run. I am not doing the polar bear option either. With this sub-freezing weather we've been having the past couple of days, I would probably get sick if I did that. Good luck on the run!
  • I ended up taking the day off yesterday, did teh 6x2.30 today. Tomorrow, I'm going to try to just suck it up, get up and work out. nothing is going to keep me awake this evening (kids asleep, wife will be asleep), so I may as well!

    Happy New Year, everyone.
  • ten hour Ironman Hawaii marathon on Universal Sports.
  • I've been pre-hydrating all day, and will do tomorrow's workout as planned.  A few glasses of wine won't derail me.

ten hour Ironman Hawaii marathon on Universal Sports.

Can that be watched online?  We do not get US.

  • I'm not sure - I pull it in by Over The Air digital. Though I can't imagine why it would not be.

In any case, it;'s going to be a welcome relief after watching about 100 hours of bobsledding on US since the beginning of the holiday.
