Removable valve cores??

Dopey question... what's the deal with "removable valve cores"? How does this have to do with the valve extender issue? What part gets removed? etc etc. What parts do you need instead of a valve extender or what kind of valve extender do you need?
(I hate dealing with extenders, too and would love to have a good work-around. We have both a set of 404s and a Hed jet. Those 404s are awfully picky about what fits through the stem hole and how tight it's sealed.)
Thanks!

Tufo and some other manufacturers offer extenders that allow you to remove the valve core from your tube and install it in the extender, from there you simply install the extender to your tube and you are ready to go.
If needed, you can stack the extenders to make any length needed for your wheel.
I hope this helps.
I would insert a picture but I can't figure out how in this response, so here is a link:

Basically you use a specific tool (or needle nose pilers) and you can remove the valve from the stem on the tube. Then you screw on an extender that has a o-ring seal and then screw the valve core into the extender.
This simply makes the value stem longer and moves the core so it is outside of the deep rim.
It really is much easier than it sounds.
The reasons i like it more is I can screw the valve closed, I can easily let air out, and they stay tight and do not leak.

Is that the kind of thing you're talking about? You actually remove the little screw-in bit in the middle of the stem?
That's not exactly like the pictures here from Tufo: http://www.tufonorthamerica.com/accessories.php
Sorry for being such a dope on this!
@mancona... ok, I see your response and mine crossed in the ether. That looks a lot more like the TUFO picture than the Topeak one.
This link from Zipp is apparently using a "normal" one, not what you're talking about from what I can see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9YLlZDIOkU
Is this the Tufo extender? When you take the core out, it comes out nicely and you just screw it into the end of the extender? Is that right? (Edit...forgot the lnk)

Again, thanks.
