Finished Week 5

How's the team doing?  Did you "get ur done?"  This was my first week of doing every workout listed.  I'm not sure I would have been so diligent and committed but all of you are assisting witht the accountability issue.  My sincere gratitute!  Even though on some of workouts I'm struggling to stay in the prescribed heart rate zones, my watts are slowing improving; so that's enough to keep me coming back for more pain.  Hope all of you had a great week.

  • Hi Steve,

Good job on getting all the workouts completed! I bet seeing your watts improve is very motivating! my powermeter has been ordered, and I can't wait to get it.

The second half of this week went better for me than the first half. I had trouble motivating my mutt to do today's run intervals, though!

I am sitting here on my couch, fretting anxiously until noon, waiting to pull the trigger on IMFL 2010. I hope I get a spot!

How did everyone else do this week?
  • Hi Kristen:

Yes, it feels good to know I'm on track with training again and the watt increase is cool too.  I have been training with the power meter now for about 1-month so it's a new experience for me.  So far, I'm impressed with adding it as another tool to rate intensity, pace and for post evaluation of any workout.  The TKO software is so cool as you can pull up a graph showing where your heart rate, watts, speed and cadence plots at different times during the workout.

So, you're going for a IM Florida 2011 slot, aye?  Have you done the race before?  By the way, what's on your IM schedule for 2010?

I'm assuming you nailed the week's workouts.  Way to pull yourself out this morning to finalize the week

  • Hi Steve,

Oh, I haven't even thought about 2011.  I just completed registration for IM Florida 2010.  The other "A" race for my 2010 schedule is the Lonestar 70.3 in April, and a "B" race is a half marathon in January.  What are your 2010 races?

  • @Steve: Good job on getting through the workouts this week. Everyone seems to make you just that much stronger. I am actually one person looking forward to the next testing week. It will be fun to see just how much stronger I really am.

@Kristen: IMFL, cool! Did you get in? It must have been fun monitoring Team EN yesterday. Looks like that all did a great job. Next year we will be watching you.

I had my final race of 2009 today. It was a Sprint DU in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY. I decided to treat it as just another training day and did no tapering. It also gave me a chance to do both an impromptu FTP and 5K test. My finish time was 1:31:21. I had a PNorm:208, IF:1:06 on the bike. I managed a time of 22:51 with an IF:1.16 on the final 5k run. This would have resulted in a 13 watt bump in FTP and a 2 point jump in vDOT. I know have to consider whether I want to use these new numbers for the next 3 weeks or stick with the old?

Have a nice day off everyone!

  • Hi everyone. I really appreciate the help in the accountability area. I was able to get all the workouts in this week. This is a first for me since the start out the out season.

I didn’t think it would make a difference participating in the online forum. I signed up for EN for the plan not the forum. I’m surprised that it does help with motivation. I think it is reading about all the challenges and success of others in the group and also knowing that somewhere, someone else is hammering away in the their paincave. Hope everyone else is doing well and pounding it out…

  • @Pete - Great job on the improvements!

@Tom - I, too, am a little surprised at how much I enjoy the group and the forums.  I just have to say, everyone at EN seems so nice and supportive.  That must be the difference between a team and just a forum, where the comments tend towards the nasty side.

  • Way to go team!!!

Sounds like we're all putting the final touches on week 5 with focus. When I finished my run today I said outloud, "Week 5 is done!" Luckily not too many people were out at that time of morning. I'm generally in awe at the fact that we're this far through already. Sheesh! Time is flying! I'm feeling the fatigue by now, for sure. Which is a good thing, except for when I want to go up and down the stairs in my house. UGH! Heavy, heavy legs!

I had a little peek at next week's work....oh boy. Rest up reeeeeeallly hard today and tomorrow, we're gonna need some extra fuel in the tank for this one....

Pete, consult with the coaches in the forum on the "I need training feedback..." thread on what paces/FTP to use. If it were me I would stick with my current ones until I tested. You may end up with a stronger test (read: bigger overall bump) in 3 weeks if you continue on your current path, rather than start ramping up now, especially right before the big bump we're about to get in duration of each interval. Definitely get their professional input.

Kristen, I went down for Lonestar in 2008. What a great race! I swam off course a little unfortunately. Took a nice little self guided tour of the bay!!   I have a special place in my heart for IMFL....no one ever forgets their first.....

  • Way to get the work done, I for one am glad that the week is over and we get a rest day tomorrow. I never thought that 6 hours a week would be so painful but it's a good pain. Today was the first day that I was starting to curse R&P during the run - I just couldn't hit my run pace for the mile repeats about 10 sec off and was having some stomach issues so needless to say it was a battle and I had to find someone to curse at. First time in a long time to have any issues on run but I think it's my own fault I had a fairly large breakfast a few hours before the run, so I know where the stomach issues came from. Everyone enjoy your day off and rest up for the week we'll need it.

Kristen - Did you get in IMFL?

Pete - Nice job on the race - Are you a Brookly native - I used to live in the Bayridge area in the mid 90's - I miss all the mom and pop shops - great food

Tom - Great work on getting all the workouts done - keep it up.

I also like the team atmosphere the EN creates and surprised that I'm actually posting on the forum and groups - maybe some day I'll actually take the time to post a picture of myself or at least the mutts. Really like the accountability.

  • Kristen:

Good job girllll!  My error with 2011 what am I thinking of course you're looking at IMF 2010.  Way cool!  I've done IMF twice and love it.  Lonestar, Aye.  Sounds like you have a great season planned a head of you.  I'm thankful you're on our team as you have great vibs.  I know you're a Vet and saw your video.  I feel like so many of you in that I've been thorough impressed by the various talents, achievements and generosity manifested by so many of you and I hardly know ya .

Tom & Peter, way go guys!!!  Just checking off the to do list, feels so good.  Peter help me out:  what does IF stand for?  I'm still learning this EN lango.

Hopefully, we'll hear from our southern cal man and other members soon.

Good luck this week.  Remember to be "tougher for just a little bit longer" on those intervals.

Olivia, I think you need to be nominated as our team Capitan as you are the one who was the catalyst for most of us to jump in use the forum to connect.  Muchas Gracias!!!

  • I too nailed all of the workouts in week #5!  Looking forward to my first interval workout on the trainer tomorrow morning!  2 x 20'...ouch!

    Fred

  • For those of you who see 2x20 minutes today; are you on the advanced plan? I am on intermediate and mine only says 2x15. That's ok with me, but I just wanted to make sure my plan is right.

Stephen, I agree with you, let's make Olivia team captain!
  • Kristen: I am on the intermediate plan as well and I only had 2x15'.

    Pete
