If 110% is 181 what would 120% be?

Okay, so I did my Saturday ride yesterday.  According to my last FTP test my Z5 is >188 for my power output. Armed with the info I go into the ride making sure that I get above 188 on the 2.5min intervals which I did at (190, 192), but when I see what my IF is it says 1.12. What would I have to hit to get a 120% which I see is the % I need to ride at to perform the Z5 intervals correctly?  Not only am I mathematically challenged but I am confused.

Can anyone help me out?

  • That would mean your FTP was about 164 watts if 181 watts was 110%. 120% of 164 would be about 197 watts.
  • Actually my FTP is 171. My old FTP was 162 and the damn computer allowed me to put the new FTP in manually, but it appears it is not giving me accurate info. So if I multiply my FTP by 120% that means I should be riding my Z5 intervals at 205? Okay, that is why they did not hurt as much as everyone is saying they should. Thanks Bob.

When you open up WKO+ again, does it still have your FTP as 171 or did it reset it back to 162.  I ran into this before and it was as simple as making the change in the FTP box of WKO+, but the important part was hitting the save button immediately after the change.  If your having another problem, let us know what you've tried and we'll see what we can problem solve for you.

  • Also make sure you are creating a new period (zone in wko+ terms) for your new FTP so that all of your previous TSS scores will not change.
  • Also when you put in a new FTP, click Options and then Calculate New Zones.  Sometimes, just pressing enter does not always work.  Save is a must as well.

@ Keith - when I open up user it does have my FTP at 171

@ David - not sure how to do this? After my test I went into user and put in my new numbers for my power zones (peak at 4 and 30min)

@ George, if you mean put the new numbers that I mention above and push generate - I did that but then it puts my FTP at 167 and my Normalized power from my last test is 171, so I just manually overroad it and put in the FTP as 171, but now I think it might not have registered it as that and is giving me scewed numbers?  I always seperate my intervals when I ride and then go in and look at my avg power for the interval and if I am in the range that I should be I feel successful., but it would be great if it would give me the correct FTP

  • How many dates do you have in the power training zones box? you determine this by clicking on the left right arrows next to the date and counting how many times it toggles to a new date. If you only have one or two dates and know the date of your test and power number, here's what I would do:

Go back to where you "overrode" your FTP and put the 162 back in. When your looking at the box with your zones in it, make sure that in the "Effective" date at the top, you have the date you got the 162 as your FTP.

Then in that same box, go to "Options", "New Zones". Once you do this put in your new FTP of 171 and change the date to the date of the test where you earned the 171. Save this. From that date on your workouts should be accurate for IF.

Let us know how that works.
  • @Brenda - Keith gave you the correct way to add zones. Thanks Keith!
