Joule Battery Drain

Charged it fully Tuesday and then put it on bike in basement.  Went to use it today and battery was almost dead when I turned it on.  I have the sleep timer set at 3 minutes.  The display goes blank after 3 minutes of inactivity, so I assume this means it has powered off.  I do have the backlight set to Always On.  Any chance that was draining power?  Bad battery?  Thoughts?

  • I'm new to the joule myself, but the always on does seem to be a drain (think I remember reading they recommend you not do that), but I thought it had 20 hours of life to it... besides if it was fully charged it shouldn't drop out that quickly. seems like it might be defective/not holding the charge.

the only other thought I have is this - do you have it set to turn itself off when it stops detecting speed or HR (if HR, are you wearing a stra - and is it being detected by the joule when you ride)? In any event, I think I have mine set to speed.

I'd check the help info and give cycleops a call. good luck!
  • Fully charged the battery Thu and let it sit on the bike (off) until this morning.  Turned it on and battery life was already down 1 bar.  Rode for a little over an hour and battery was down another bar.  I have it turn off after 3 minutes of inactivity and sense speed and set the backlight to only light for 30 secs.  I'm thinking I need a new battery.

  • My basement is cold. I keep the heat set at 50 and only turn it up to 65 for a few minutes to warm up the room before I start working out. If I leave my Joule or LYC in the basement, the battery dies very quickly. I keep my Joule and LYC on my office desk where I download unless I am actually using. See what happens if kept in a warm area when not in use.
  • Will do - Thanks!
