Quiet Blender for Morning Smoothies?

I am looking to get a new blender to replace the 20+ year-old one I have now.  Primary use will be making smoothies.  Since I am up first, and my husband is a very light sleeper, I'd like to get the quietest one possible to minimize the loss of SAU's when I try to eat healthy early in the morning.  Anyone have one they could recommend?

  • I dont think you can make a smoothie without a lot of noise. I have a Cuisinart - makes smoothies every day, for over 4 years with no problems. Only needed to replace the blades once in that time.

Tell him that is the sound of being healthy!

My recipe is as simple as it can possibly be:

    1 large banana
10 oz frozen fruit (dole mixed and blueberries)
    10 oz plain soy milk

no fufu la la, no nuts or twigs - just yum!
  • I thrown a bath towel over the coffee grinder and that helps with the noise.

  • I'm not sure if it's any quieter, but I have used a KitchenAid Immersion Blender for several years. I think it's easier to clean up and takes up less space. The KitchenAid is a little more expensive then other brands, but well worth the extra cost. It has 10 speeds to choose from.

    My recipe:
1/2 frozen banana (when my bananas go brown because I don't eat them fast enough, I break them in half and put them in a freezer container)
    1/2 cup skim milk
    1/2 cup chocolate milk
1 tablespoon Peanut Butter (if I need more calories)

If I need to take it with me on days when I go straight from the gym to work, sippy cups work very well!
  • Jan just bought a NINJA. She loves it. It's quiet too.
  • I have the Magic Bullet....use it every morning. Its loud, but quick. The mixing container is also a mug and comes with a lid so it travels nicely!!

i'm with Matt...or else get an extension cord and run out in the back yard!

  • Why not blend it at night, store it in the fridge, then just mix it up with a spoon or a quick blend in the morning?
  • A friend of mine makes all her smoothies the night before and keeps it in the fridge for the morning.

Ha!  Beat me to it image

  • I will have to try that. (That's how I manage the 'grinding coffee beans' noise!) Does it stay 'frozen', or does it end up more just a cold drink than a 'slushy' drink?
  • Leave it in the garage and assemble in the kitchen ?
  • DO NOT buy a Waring if you are on the hunt for a sniper blender.  While it is amazing & I think I could puree my shoe in there, they sound like 757 taking off.

I can't comment on sound, but I have heard from many that VitaPrep/VitaMix is the last blender you'll ever buy...

It definitely is not frozen or slushy, just like a thick cold drink.  It's different at first, but you get used to it.  Generally I like the slushy drinks in the summer, but in the winter I've gone the route of making the whole weeks worth up and popping them into daily to-go containers to speed up the morning routine.

  •  I have a regular blender and a Ninja.  Both are loud.  My wife bought me a Cuisinart Smart Stick for Christmas and it is pretty darn quiet and WAY easier to clean than blender parts.

I also find that if you use frozen berry's and skip the ice you don;t make as much noise.  Still cold, but not as slushy.

  • very good info as I'm also in the market for a new blender (and possibly a juicer)! Oh, and I also use frozen fruit instead of water... and for RRs I would make them the night before, no way I was gonna be blending anything at 2am...never heard of a ninja. will check it out.
  • I've got a blender, but love the recipe ideas. Keep posting!
  • Santa brought us one of those kick ass Vitamix machines for Christmas. It is as loud as all get out BUT THE BEST blender we have ever used. Period! Just amazing. We LOVE it. It is easy to use and clean. I crack up at how loud it is. Scares the bejeesus out of me! Ha!

So might not be what you are looking for. But it does make amazing soups, and the smoothies are perfect!!

  • I have a regular blender and used to go out into the garage.  Now I use the Magic Bullet, my mother inlaw was sleeping on the couch over the holidays and I forgot she was there until after I was done.  She didn't here a thing.   I don't think it's that quiet and would have woke most people up, but it is not as loud as my blender.

This is what I do also. Never use ice anymore.

I think it depends on how light a sleeper the person is. It doesn't take much to wake me. . . .
