HR Testing

Probably overlooking it but can you tell me or point me in the right direction to better define the quantifiable delta between my last bike test and the one scheduled in week 8? My distance on my computer is not accurate so I am solely looking at HR.

Thanks,

Jody

  • I may have this wrong so I won't be offended if one of the WSMs corrects me. . .but I think when using HR (which I am too) you need at least one other point of reference - whether that is MPH or Distance (on the same course) to be able to identify how much more work you are doing at whatever your LTHR is. If I understand it correctly, your LTHR won't change but the amount of work you can do at LTHR will - which is why you need to be able to determine some other data point to define your progress.

For me, I rode 22mph avg and 14.67 miles during my first test @ LTHR of 176. So for my week 8 test I should be able to ride at the same HR but ride at a higher MPH and longer distance.

  • Jody- Greg is right, you usually become more efficient in speed/distance, and some will see their HR go down while being able to perform the same amount of work. But, if you are riding indoors on a trainer it might be difficult to see these results until you get outside and realize how much faster/stronger/more awesome you are. Unfortunately that's the nature of HR.
