Thoughts on VI<1

A couple guys in the JOS have been looking at power numbers (me included) and noticed that since my new FTP test that I regularly have VI<1. Typically it will be .99.

The mathematics are easy: VI=NP/AP. Indeed looking at the output my AP is > than NP.

Some of the JOS crew thought it was impossible to have AP>NP. I'm curious on thoughts about what this VI<1 means? Is it good? Is it bad? "It is what it is..." <-- favorite quote. Did something goofy happen in algorithms when I went from WKO+ 2.2 to 3.0???

Here is a cut and paste of an interval:

8' #2:

    Duration: 8:01

    Work: 112 kJ

    TSS: 13.5 (intensity factor 1.005)

    Norm Power: 232

    VI: 0.99

    Pw:HR: 4.43%

    Pa:HR: 4.1%

    Distance: 2.766 mi

        Min Max Avg

    Power: 193 276 234 watts

    Heart Rate: 145 177 171 bpm

    Cadence: 81 87 84 rpm

    Speed: 20 21.6 20.7 mph

    Pace 2:46 2:60 2:54 min/mi

    Hub Torque: 6 9 7 lb-in

    Crank Torque: 194 274 234 lb-in

Thanks!

  • Yep they changed something slightly, it only happens on shorter sets 8-10 minutes. I put a thread on it a few weeks ago when I was seeing as I was also curious.
