Trouble flying with foot pod?

I have heard a rumor that there can be problems flying with a garmin foot pod.  Something about it throwing the calibration off.  I have searched the garmin site and can not find anything to support this rumor.  Honestly I don't know enough about how they work to know if this is true.

Anyone know?

  • I've flown with it without any problems. I can't imagine what problems could occur if it is in a carry on. Checked could be different (very cold, not pressurized).
  • There is nothing in the pod that reacts to pressure changes, I don't see how flying with it could affect it. A jet cabin is pressurized to around 8000 ft. You could easily run at that altitude here in Colorado. I've run at that altitude and also at sea level. I have a Polar foot pod and it works fine no matter where I run... oh maybe except in the pool! You won't have any problems. Where did you hear that rumor?
  •  No issues at all. I have flown for years with Garmin pod when I had. Poor pod flew every day.

@Mike, cargo compartment is pressurized, just as you said very cold, just above freezing in most cases.

No worries for your pod. Keep flying it.

  • My Garmin foot pod has been to both coasts and Hawaii both in the cabin and checked luggage and I have noticed no difference. However when racin the footpod is only used for cadence not distance. I only use it for distance on the treadmill.
  • I have had problems with the Polar pod - probably caused by flying.

Completely messed up my Ironman UK pacing in 2009 ..haven't experienced it since, though..
  • My sister is the one who told me she knew people with problems. Therefore I did not take the chance and fly with my foot pod. She uses the Nike + sensors which may not use ANT + technology.
I do have the garmin and will fly next time with as most people don't seem to have any difficulty.
    Thanks for the input all.
  • I travel every other week and have not had any issues with my Garmin.  Same as Matt outside I use it for cadence inside I use it for miles.
