Holiday Fun 17 Jan: Day off or Train

Monday is a Federal Holiday in recognition of MLK. For some of us that means a day off from work.  I'm trying to figure out how to use this time.  No work, Day care is open, what to do...?  I know this is a normal Rest Day but I am still tempted to use the free time and no family impact to get some training in.  I'm thinking about a swim  followed by either a Run or a Bike (not necessarily a brick)

Didn't want to post in the "what do I do this week" forum because I'm not deperate for feedback from RnP but just wondered what the team is doing on Monday?

  • Since it's a scheduled rest day and assuming you'll hit your other days, I would still treat it as a day off. Now that doesn't meant you shouldn't go do something 'fun' and that could very well be athletic (it might be a swim, bike, run or something else). I just wouldn't make it 1) structured or 2) necessarily hard which might impact your real training.
  • Last year there was a challenge associated with this weekend. I remember we had to post a picture on Twitter 'n something. Hmm. We should think of something!
  • If you were in Race Prep/General Prep you could use the 3 day weekend for a "Big Bike Week" or "Epic Weekend" kinda thing. But you are focusing on Fast now, not Far. So I agree with Ken. Do something fun- just don't make it something that's gonna impact your ability to keep up the OS schedule starting Tuesday.

You could move your Sunday workout to Monday and free up Sunday to spend with your family. :-) Or take the kids out of day care and spend the afternoon at a museum or at the Zoo. This is a GREAT opportunity to build SAUs.

If I had Monday off (I'm quite jealous) I'd probably try to get my honey to go for a long ride (LSD pace) with me broken up by a lunch date (ride 2 hours to a spot, have lunch together, ride home). OR I'd head to Shanandoahs for a day of hiking in the mountains. The point would be to spend time with the hubby doing something together.
  • Great feedback...
@Nemo, like the idea of taking Sunday off and doing that work on Monday...Sunday could be quality family time or 6 hours of football watching on the couch image
  • @Nemo: Over the past 2 years there has always been talk about accumulating the SAP's (Spousal Approval Points.) We will need thoses later in the year. I don't think I have seen that in any of the posts this year that I have read. As you said, this might be a great opportunity to start that "bank."
  • Agreed!! My account got a little too far into the red last year so I need to earn credits just to get myself back in black!
  •  You could always run 50 miles as a tribute to the march from Montgomery to Selma

  • Thanks Chris!!! That's what I'll do...image
  • I'm going to Madison to get a new resistance unit at Saris, my big huge quads have blown up our fluid2. Might have to sample a cheese curd or 30.
  • @Hayes - make sure they are fried. It will be the treat that keeps on giving.
