Tri Kit Fit Notes

Women (from Gina)

  • Fabric: Lightweight, breathable mesh. Finish shouldn't be "shiny"
  • Sizing: true to size, per the fit charts

Top: 3/4 length, recessed zipper. Large, single pocket in back. I am 36" in the chest & a large fit me comfortably snug. Susanna is 34" in the chest & the small fit her comfortably as well. The length however is another matter for her. In the small it barely covered her belly button (she is long waisted). Rich's bold here. I measured XL front and back:

  • Sugoi kit : 18.5" neck to hem front/20" in back
  • LG kit:   17.25 neck to hem front/22.5" back

So, the LG top is longer in the back, but shorter in the front. No tramp stamp burns, but you better have the 6 pack ready. Rich edit: see that this may specific to Susaanna

Shorts: Fit true to sizing. I was comfortable in a medium. Tri pad was soft, not bulky. Inseam on a lg was 5", hit me mid thigh. I can't imagine anyone in the haus needing an ex-small ( even Neems) & for our athena girls (trying to be diplomatic) the XL top will be snug.

Men's Tri Kit Fit Notes (from Rich, and women can probably gain some insights as well)

  • Fabric is more mesh, lighter, and likely cooler than the '10 Sugoi kits
  • Fit is "true to size." I was easily a large on Sugoi so I tossed on a large LG. It was loose, like running singlet loose so I went down to a medium. Fits great and not American Gladiators tight and shiny. This is not a compression top, it's very comfortable.
  • Shorts also fit true to size. Again, I'm used to wearing large, maybe a medium so I put on the large, it was VERY loose on my waist...then I looked at the size chart to see that the LG large waist is 36(!!). So I went down to a small men's short (again, very unusual for me), with a 32" waist, what I am now. Waist fit great. My general shorts recommendation is that the waist fits true to size and the width of the legs decreases more slowly than the waist size but the fabric at the bottom of the short is more grippy. IOW, the waist changed a lot from Large to Medium but leg circumference (?) did not. From Medium to Small the waist fit me better but the legs began to be a little tight. Knowing that I lose weight in my ass and legs, but gain muscle in my legs when fit, and that my waist size will be a 30" at race weight = XS per the charts, I'll stay with small so my legs can fit in the shorts  .
  • Shorts are mesh, cool and comfortable, not compression type material.
  • Chamois is thin and not bulky. It's a tri short, in other words.

Tri Fit Notes, from Tim Bixler, for bigger guys:

I am 6'4" and 225-235.  47-48 inch chest and 37-38 inch waist.  My torso is about normal for my height, perhaps a little long.  I found the 2X and 3X sizes both fit well enough.  The 2X was a little snug across the chest, but would have been probably most smaller in the arm holes.  In that size in particular, the arms seemed too high.  I suspect that's a side effect them being made by scaling up the smaller sizes -- not all the folk that size are just big; there are some pretty athletic frames out there and broad shoulders would impact the fit quite a lot.  The 3x was better through the chest and shoulders, pretty easily.  Both sizes were loose through the mid-section (see my comment about about construction), but nothing that I found too bad. I could wear either on race day and not really notice that issue.  Only negative point of feedback is that both seemed short in the torso -- like up to my navel short.  The back is a bit longer, but I would bet that racing in these will expose your lower back to the sun and your stomach to the world -- so time to do your core work boys.

Tri Kit Inseam Lengths (from LG)

  • Inseam is 7" for men's, this assumes a size medium on the body.
  • Inseam for women's is 6.25", again assumes a size medium on the body.
  • The inseam will vary slightly depending upon size.

Cycling Kit Fit Notes

Rich Notes:

I'm 5'9", 39-40" chest, 32" waist. Per the Capo size chart below, I should be a medium jersey and medium bibs:

  • The large jersey fit me much better than the medium. Same with the large vest, it fit great.
  • Large bib shorts fit great.
  • Bottomline: for doodes my size or smaller, go up a size for jersey, bibs, and vest.

Quality, material, etc:

  • We are going with their "drop" fabric, which is a little thicker and appears to be more durable and longer lasting than the MicroWhatever stuff they also sent me.
  • The kit is VERY high quality, much better than Sugoi. You'll like it.

Vest and Jacket

  • Unisex sizing: still waiting on details on this from Capo
  • Sleeve length: they didn't include a jacket in the fit kit so I've asked for more detail re the length of the sleeves by size.
  • The vest is cut just like the jersey but without sleeves (duh), and a wind-resistant fabric. We are going with the version that has 3 pockets in the back = you won't have to dig to get stuff out of your jersey under your vest (you can transfer your stuff over to the vest pockets, but the vest won't roll as tightly as a non-pocket vest to store in a jersey pocket. I did so, it worked fine, no worries.

Patrick Notes (Added 10/15):

I am 6' 2", 34" waist and a 42" chest. Oh, and super way nicer than Rich.  I tried things on under the watchful eye of Miss M.  Per the Capo sizing below I am kind of in the middle.

  • I would go with an XL jersey, even though I wear large in my other stuff. The material is snug at the waist and made it look like I was trying too hard in an L (well, it _is_ the OS!). Ditto with the vest...XL. And note it isn't baggy material, still flexy and snug.
  • The large bib shorts fit my waist (34) and are just tall enough to fit my broad, manly shoulders. If you are 6'4" your gonna have to do XL regardless of waist with these bibs!
  • The material all looked great; felt like a pro in these duds. Guaranteed like an extra 10-20 watts.

Gina's Notes: coming soon

All women's kit FedEx'ed to her so look for her feedback.

Delivery

  • We expect to take delivery and begin shipping to you mid/late January

  • All orders will need to be prepaid and we will keep a very small inventory of popular sizes (medium and large) and zero inventory of others (small, XL, etc).
  • We will offer men's tri shorts and cycling bibs.
  • Women's tri and cycling shorts will be available if we (you) make the minimum order quantities for these items.
  • Bottomline, if you want it, especially if you want shorts and/or you are in the outer ends of the size scale, order it now. If we don't meet the minimums, we'll refund your money.

Design Notes

First of all, next to rewriting our training plans and making improvements to the site, redesigning the EN kit, dealing with the manufacturers, placing the orders, managing inventory, shipping, and everything else involved in getting you quality training and racing kit...all of _that_ is about the most complicated thing we do around here. It's simply impossible, for many, many reasons, to satisify everyone's wishlist. From tech t's to hats, to visors, to special women's stuff, to....much more....we will always do the best we can but please understand that sometimes we just gotta say no. At a minimum, we really, really hope you decide to purchase and wear an EN racing singlet.

Tri Singlet

We focused on:

  • Making the front of the singlet more visible, as you're running on the course.
  • Putting the Work is Speed thing prominently on the back, more visible to everyone, as that's kinda our/your calling card .
  • Put X/B1 right there also, to create a WTF does that say/mean moment with people who aren't the cool kids yet.
  • We feel the LG kit is more of a mesh, cooler, and lighter material than the Sugoi stuff.
  • Features a single, larger back pocket, which we feel is more functional than the two side pockets on the Sugoi kit.

Cycling Kit

  • We wanted a clean, sharp, almost retro look.
  • Paid the most attention to the back of the jersey, as that's what most people see, and featured Work is Speed where it's  most visible when you're in the drops, the aero, etc.
  • We're psyched to offer a thermal jacket for you NE peeps, for you to wear in transition before your race, etc.
  • Capo is VERY high quality stuff. My own Sugoi bibs are kinda blown out, the pockets are beginning to separate from the jersey, etc.

Comments

  • Trying to place my order for my practically free tri singlet, but am I missing something. Where is the shipping cart. It says the orders are closed.
  • Ok, I didn't know that we had hidden those shopping cart buttons. Sorry, P will have them up this weekend or early next week. Sorry for the miscue :-(
  • Store is fixed, go get yer gear on!

  • ENDoode11 code works, ordered my tri singlet and tri shorts.

But went back to get the cycling jersey and the system says the ENRawks11 code has expired. Help! Thanks!

    -Greg
  • Newbie questions:
I've read a bunch of past forum posts on what to wear in each leg of a full IM. It seems like the consensus is to wear tri shorts for the duration if you can handle them on the long bike. I'm doing the IMCDA and am considering the following:

-Wear tri shorts under full wetsuit
-In T1 remove wetsuit and add cycling jersey
-In T2 remove cycling jersey and add singlet

Does this make sense for the IMCDA, given the typical weather? I'm wondering if it makes sense to use the cycling jersey for bike due to temperatures? Or should I just wear the tri shorts and singlet for the whole race and have the cycling jersey in my T1 bag just in case it's cold enough to wear it? I also saw mention that the bib shorts are great but would you wear bib shorts for all 3 legs instead of the tri shorts or would they be bad for the run?

I know that's a lot of questions but generally speaking I'm just curious what others do for a full IM during each leg and in transitions for shorts and shirts. Want to make sure I order the right gear.
  • I get the same "ENRawks11 has expired"

  • @Allen, I would suggest wearing tri shorts and singlet under the wetsuit, and planning on spending the day in it. You will be cool for 15 minutes on the bike, and then good for the rest. If the day approaches and it looks like it is going to be cold in the morning, you might want to consider not wearing the singlet during the swim and putting it on in T1. By the way, putting on a tight shirt when your skin is kinda wet is hard - beforehand roll it from the bottom up and "roll" it on, instead of pulling it on.
Another thing to do if it's going to be cold: disposable gloves and armwarmers. Hardware store $2 cotton gloves work, and cut off the toe from cotton tube socks and roll them up (so you can roll them on in T1). Either can then be tossed at an aid station when you warm up.
    Mike
  • Trying to order a cycling jersey but I get the same response as Greg - code ENRawks11 expired.
  •  I'm about the same dimensions as CoachP, I'm thinking large on the tri top but should I go M or L on the bottom?  Leaning towards M since that ought to be my true waist size by race season.

  • Are Women's X-Large Tri tops available? The store dropdown only has up to Large.
  • @code: fixed.

@Lori: try it now, make sure you refresh the store page.

  • @ Mike - thanks, that helps a lot.
  • @Coach ; I tried to refresh the store.  I even did Ctrl+F5 to refresh the entire store page and I still can't see the XL.  What am I doing wrong??

  • I also can't see XL for the women's tri top. Thanks!
  • I fixed this stuff...Rich didn't know to update the code on the page....we are all set now! http://www.endurancenation.us/store/gear/triathlon.php
  • Chickas! I guess the ladies weren't interested enough in the cycling shorts last go round, so they aren't putting in an order. I'm a newbie, but we'll be doing miles and miles come May (just guessing that's when we'll see this order since October's order will be sent for February delivery.)!! You must all just have a couple pairs of cycling shorts, but I don't, and why not have an EN outfit to promote our team too? I guess if I'm going to buy another pair of cycling shorts I'd rather buy EN ones vs. regular black ones. I might be out of line (like if R says no ordering, it means no ordering b/c minimum wasn't met last time), but just in case wanted to throw it out there. Are you sure you don't want to order the cycling shorts too?! C'mon chickas!! I'm totally in if others are for the minimum.
  • I tried to get cycling shorts with the last order, but got shut out as the numbers weren't met. I'm in for whenever they make a comeback!
  • Cycling kit ordered. I guess it is time for me to give the whole bib-thing a try. I have been holding out b/c I just didn't see what the deal was. However, Rich's emphatic post (in a different thread) and its follow-on comments have been the impetus I needed.

(Wish I could order a jacket to use before my late-season races......oh well, next year!)

    Joe
  • Still on the fence (not needing any new kit right now), but may decide to tomorrow. I agree with Joe, I'm regretting no jacket in the first order.
  • @Mike - get the bibs - you'll never go back. And I too wish I ordered a jacket.
  • Kinda wish this second-round buy was after the first round got shipped, so I could re-order if something doesn't fit.

I guess we'll have to hope for a summer re-buy, or fire up a swap thread.

  • RnP,

When I enter "ENDoode11" for my new member discount on the tri top, it totals as $14 instead of $15.

So I owe you a dollar!

    John

  • Can anyone comment on the comfort level of the Delfino shorts?  The LG site says the Tri-Air chamois is for "sprint distance triathlons."  Are these going to be suitable for an IM distance race?

    thanks

  • Just the Tri Jersey for now - though the bibs and bike jersey are tempting. Need a few better days in the market until then ;-)
  • Update: this order is CLOSED, with me submitting final numbers and $$$$ to LG and Capo next week.

Joanne and I have started to process and ship out the November order. I have an entire office filled with tri and cycling kit, staged to pack and ship out 252 packages (!) I think EN is gonna have to buy Mama a new pair of shoes!
