Garmin 310xt speed zone fun
Hoping the haus can give a noob some advice?
I have set up my running speed zones as such in Training Center for my garmin 310xt based on a couple of other threads I read as such:
Order
1 Z1 / EP 12:04/mi-12:03/mi
2 Grey 12:03/mi-10:40/mi
3 Z2 / MP 10:40/mi-10:28/mi
4 Grey 10:28/mi-10:22/mi
5 Z3 / HMP 10:22/mi-10:12/mi
6 Grey 10:12/mi-9:57/mi
7 Z4 / TP 9:57/mi-9:47/mi
8 Grey 9:47/mi-9:32/mi
9 Z5 / IP 9:32/mi-9:22/mi
10 Grey 9:22/mi-1:00/mi
But when I create a new interval workout in training center, and send it to the 310xt based on these zones, it is always telling me to speed up? It seems that the fookin zones are different between their program, and the Garmin?
Anyone else experienced this? have a workaround for it? It has really left me scratchin my head
Also, Do what type of +/- of seconds per zone do most give themselves? Mine is 10 seconds, just wondering if that works?
Thanks,
Scott

HI Scott,
My understanding is that this is a common undocumented feature (bug) found in GTC. When creating an interval I use the "custom" zone and enter in the pace. This is only way I have managed to get the proper pace alert into a workout, maybe someone else can recommend a different work-around.
Cheers
Kevin
X2 what Kevin said. I use the custom configuration. It doesn't add that much more time to the set up and at least it is accurate. Also I just put in the same pace for my beginning and ending zone. ie; what ever I got from my vdot test. The Garmin seems to have a built in zone between 5 and 10 seconds on either side of the pace. Once you go beyond that it will let you know to speed up or slow down.
This should have been corrected in version 3.00 of the firmware
Changes made from version 2.90 to 3.00:
Implemented support for speed zones. The user cannot view or edit on the device, but speed zones can be sent from Garmin Training Center and then used in workouts.
Fixed various issues with workouts showing wrong units in steps.
Added new data fields: Vertical Speed - 30 second average, 3 second power, 30 second power, %FTP power and max speed.
Fixed issue with GPS taking precedence over GSC10 for speed/distance even indoors
@ David, that's what I thought when I installed the new software. All I know is, when I went out to test it the entire run kept telling me to speed up. Maybe others have had better luck.
@ Jason, there are so many variables that affect heart rate. Sleep, hydration, what you ate, when you ate, the temperature and many more. When you run with pace you have a set goal to maintain during your run. So none of the above will change that. They may change how you feel during the run but you know what your goal is. If you have a watch with a GPS like the 310 you can set it to what pace you want to run and have it warn you if you deviate from the pace too far. There is also a lag with heart rate, you don't know you are going to fast until it is too late. The first year I did heart rate and I can tell you, running with pace is far superier.
Looks like the only way to do it is via the custom option?
THANK YOU for everyones input on this.
where does one go to create this and upload, i have only downloaded from my 310, not the other way...
thks!
