Things you see from the basement window!

I thought I would share a funny thing that happened over the weekend.  On Saturday, I headed to the pain cave to knock out my workout.  I had just mounted my bike and started to pedal when the position of a "bush" caught my eye out the window.  "I don't remember planting a bush right there in front of the window.", "...wait a sec, that "bush" looks a bit funny.  It isn't a bush, that's a MOOSE outside my window.  Wild life in our area isn't unusual at all.  I don't care where you live, a moose napping under a tree in your front yard, is unusual no matter where you live.  We took some pictures and showed the kids.  I thought better of opening the front door to snap some pics, beside we were only 3ft away from the moose when we were in the basement.  So, when RnP say "Pics or it didn't happen", I have some of the pic below.

This is last springs calf and in the second pic you can see mamma moose resting across the street under a pine tree.  Living in a rual location is nice but "different" at times.

  • WOW!! Not sure what Sonny and Riley would think of that. They go postal over the squirrels in the backyard but a moose...Riley once got up close to an elk and he was a little freaked out

  • I thought twice about going out front for some pics because of my Golden (Murphy). If he were to get out he would want to play with the baby. Mamma moose wouldn't like that and probably start stomping.
  • Chuck - I know moose have long spindly legs, but all I see are small post holes in the snow leading up to that calf - no mashed down powder indicating a creature plowing through that stuff which looks pretty deep. Do they really high step like that, leaving only those dainty footprints?

  • That is awesome! We don't run into those in Memphis!
  • I think all the suffering from your VO2 session must sound like some kind of mating call...you have been warned! image
  • I live in the country, last year saw tons of Deer, Turkeys and a few pheasants. I put some pics up in last years JOS. Very cool!
  • @Al, I am not a moose expert and I don't play one on TV. The snow on that side of my house isn't too deep, maybe a foot or so. I have had several "run-ins" with moose and what I can say is that moose will take the path of least resistance. I skied up on a bull one day and shooed it down the packed trail for several miles. In fact, I shooed it right down on top of my father inlaw who was skiing up to meet me. The "meeting" of the two make for quite the site.

@coachp, thanks for the warning. When that moose stood up, it put it's head right up to the window and looked right at my 2yo son. Alex, my son, yelled "MOOSE!!!!!!" I was back on the bike and almost fell off I was laughing so hard.
