Need a new trainer...mine officially died

Meaning, I cant screw the back anymore and add resistance.  So instead of just aimlessly spinning, its time to buy a new one.  Funds are EXTREMELY limited, so Ive been looking on performance bike and bike nashbar....anyone have some advice on the best bang for my buck?  Honestly, I have to stay under $200, but don't want to get a piece of crap either.  I had a cycleops magnetic trainer before...thanks in advance.

  •  If you trainer that just died was Saris, they have a lifetime warranty. We just replaced our fluid2 resistance unit. You just need to open a ticket with them, send the resistance unit back and they send a new one. We happened to be going to Madison so we stopped in and got the new one instead of shipping it.

  • Ive had this trainer for about 8 years, and bought it at some bike shop. I took it back there and they said they didnt make the part anymoreto fix it image
  • I believe that it doesn't matter where you got it, Saris will replace it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought this was generally their policy. You should contact Saris- a free replacement should fit into your budget, right? image
  • @Lauren- I recently bought a barely used Cycleops Magneto for a friend on eBay for $170.  I know you probably need it yesterday, but there are some good deals to be had out there.

  • I got my CycleOps Fluid 2 off of eBay for about $200, brand new.
  • Call them. I've had my resistance cable replaced numerous times from them without any questions as to where I bought my trainer. The threading was stripped on mine as well and they sent me replacement parts for that.....no charge and I had my parts within a week.

  • I have to echo what everyone else said. I've had parts replaced on a 10yr old Fluid2 on a couple of occasions, just call Saris and they'll take care of the rest. In fact, a couple of months ago I had WB move my PT to my new wheels and they couldn't get it calibrated...Saris told them to replace it with the newest version (which turned out to be an upgrade). Saris definitely takes care of their customers.

  • Lauren,

Our first trainer was super-entry level POS from some online retailer. You can tell what I think about it. image I don't recommend that route.

The current trainer is a Fluid2. I really, really like it. It is pretty quiet, very smooth, and the power response is very nice as well. If Saris won't work with you on your current one, I would strongly urge you to consider the Fluid2.

  • Hey Lauren, Stop by and pick one up to borrow for a while if you need one.
