Place to stay for Kansas 70.3

Does anyone know where the closest (and not super expensive) hotels are in comparison to the race site at Kansas?  Im new to the race and dont want to be totally lost/far.  Thanks!

  • I believe I stayed at a Hampton Inn when I did that race in 08. It was about the same distance as most other hotels and not a bad drive to the race site (maybe 10-15 minutes if I remmber correctly). Just make sure you stay in Lawrence where the race is and you will be close enough.

I don't think you will get significantly closer unless you camp at the race site.
  • Lauren we stay at the Holiday Inn Express....Maybe 5 minutes away. You turn right get on the expressway get off and follow the long line of traffic....CALL NOW!!! I had a friend call last week and I think they told him they are completely sold out. I had another friend who had to stay in an out lying town and travel about 45 miles.

You can also camp at the site. It is my understanding that go directly to the campground to reserve your spot vs purchasing through the Ironman site. I heard it is much cheaper. Again that is just what I heard.

    Best of luck

    Here the site:

  • Someone mentioned in another thread (I think it was here on EN) before that the Holiday Inn was full up.

My two friends and I got a suite at the Best Western, 2309 Iowa St, Lawrence KS 66046. 785.843.9100. Might be worth a check.
  • Holiday Inn (Iowa St) and Best Western (also Iowa st) are the best spots- decent location, close to stores, food, and race site. Clean & decently priced. Ask about special rate for IM. I have stayed at HI and it's the closest and has a movie theater behind it (which is my chilling out afternoon before race activity). Also check out Free State Brewery- good food & good beer!

  • I have local friends doing the race as well, and we're staying at the Holiday Inn on McDonald street.

The rates vary with whether you prepay or not, etc etc , but the non-prepay rate is about $150/night after tax.
