Yet another computrainer question re calibration etc....

I'm slowly working my way through the manual(s) for my computrainer, and I'm wondering 2 things:

1.  Do I need to rolling resistance calibrate before every use?

2.  Is there any way to calibrate, and then get into the Coaching Software, without having to jump through hoops and get off the bike as well.  As best I can figure out, I've had to unplugg the stereo cable from the controller in order to do the calibration (which also essentially ends up being my warmup).   Then get off the bike, plug the controller back in, go to the PC run the coaching software to starting the training session.     I.e., there seems to be no way to calibrate if the stereo cable is plugged in to the controller.

Any insights appreciated greatly.  -John

  • 1. Yes, you do, if you want accurate readings. I always warm up for 10 minutes at least and then do the rolldown test.

    2. I set up the laptop computer within reach of the bike. After I warm up and do the rolldown, I reach over and start CS. It's not perfect, but it works.
  • You can callibrate with during a workout in both the 3d and CS software.

In CS, just hit the stop (or F3 I believe) key on the remote, then when the prompt comes up to save your workout, hit cancel (f2 i believe). This will leave your workout paused and the CT will be in the calibrate mode. Do the roll down and then hit start (f1) when you are ready to continue the workout.

You can do the same thing in 3d, but I believe you just hit pause in the 3d software and thats it.

As Steve said I typically calibrate, wu for 10-15' then calibrate again, then start the main set of my workout. If the workout is over an hour I like to also calibrate again around an hour. most of the time the value is within 0.01 but I like to make sure it isn't drifting.
  • In CS, I hit pause (F1) then F3 for the rolldown. It gets to be an automatic part of the workout, so like Matt, I am not 100% sure but I don't get prompts to save, etc.
  • Thanks guys.  I will give that try on tomorrow's intervals.  Slowly learning how to work this thing.  -John
