Your Health Matters — AT&T's new initiative for you and your health
As some of you might or might not know, I work for AT&T (the wireless part). Sorry, I cannot help with bills or equipment.
Well, as one of the largest companies in the world (250,000+ employees) we have never had any sort of corporate wellness program for as long as I've been here (13+ years). This has been discouraging, to say the least. We don't even get gym membership discounts, how's that for ridiculous?!?
Yesterday, the following announcement came out.
You obviously won't be able to see all the links, but they're not that informative - trust me, mostly fluff/cheerleading stuff.
I've drafted a response/reply, but trying to get additional feedback before I post it.
Your Health Matters — AT&T's new initiative for you and your health
February 08, 2011
Our products. Our services. Our people. They define the value we bring to our customers. The greatest of these assets — you — takes care of our customers and our business. Now, we want to help you take better care of yourself.
That's why we are launching Your Health Matters, a new initiative for active managers designed to help employees achieve and maintain healthier lifestyles.
Throughout the year, you'll hear about national health trends affecting our country — and our company — and the simple steps we all can take to address these challenges. You'll also hear personal success stories from your colleagues, receive important information on key resources, and — for those enrolled in the AT&T Medical Plan — have access to a comprehensive group of new wellness programs and tools.
"Your Health Matters is about employees," said Bill Blase, senior executive vice president - Human Resources. "We know that early detection of medical conditions and participation in wellness programs can help prevent, control or significantly improve conditions that negatively affect overall quality of life and hinder work performance. Your Health Matters will educate participants about existing and new wellness resources, help reinforce healthy behaviors and allow us to have some fun along the way."
So, what can you do to get involved?
-
Know the Facts. Management employees will receive regular information about health and wellness tips, tools and resources. Take time to review materials, including the Your Health Matters launch video, which reveals several important health and wellness facts.
-
Lead by example. Make health and wellness a priority. Assess your own health status and see how you can maximize existing AT&T health offerings to address any concerns. Currently, less than half of our active managers take advantage of free preventive care services, such as flu shots, annual physical exams or other wellness screenings. These vital services can help identify potential health issues and stave off more serious conditions.
-
Share your experiences. If you have achieved a personal health and wellness goal, tell your story. Talk about it and post it on the Your Health Matters tSpace community. It's a great opportunity to showcase your progress and success, and it is one more way to let others know that no matter what their personal health goals might be, they can reach them. Support from our co-workers can help us successfully manage the daily health care challenges we all face in life.
-
Join with others. Encourage your team or local office to commit to health and wellness. Not only can you benefit from maintaining a lifestyle of wellness, but by joining with co-workers, you can also have a lot of fun along the way.
-
Stay informed. Keep an eye out for coming tools and resources that will be made available throughout 2011. Note: These resources will vary for managers not enrolled in the AT&T Medical Plan.
-
March-April: Focus on preventive care tools and resources
-
May-June: Focus on condition management tools and resources
-
July-December: Focus on health and wellness portal launch and rollout of new wellness programs
-
Health Risk Questionnaire
-
New tools, resources and programs focused on weight, smoking and stress

Plans are still underway for many of the Your Health Matters activities this year, so stay tuned for more details.
Any other things that you'd suggest to mention, about how a wellness program can be launched/introduced, and how it would benefit the company?
Thanks!
