IM with early season HIM

I am in OS training with target A race IM Canada.  Just signed up for HIM Florida in mid-May.  At what point to I need to switch from OS?  What do I switch to, IM 20 week plan?  At what point before HIM FL do I need to start swimming?

  • Nick, last year I did 20 weeks OS.  exited OS mid march, two week tranistion brought me to April 5 and the start of my 10 week HIM INT training plan.  My HIM was June 12.  A week transition after that and I began the 12 IM plan for IMWI.  Honestly, If you have a good chunk of time in OS, 10-12 week of HIM prep is prolly enough, I had no problems with 10 weeks, was plenty of time.   Also the 12 week IM prep was also plenty of time and this was my first IM.  Honestly, 20 week IM plan would have been too long for me, 12 weeks was just right.  Now that is what worked for me.  As far as swimming, I did not get back in the pool last year until my HIM training plan began.  I did not swim during the OS.  By the time the HIM came around, I was more than ready

    1. Switch to the HIM plan about 6-8wks out from Florida.
    2. Recommend you start swimming and creating a 2.5hr long ride and 1:30 long run out of your OS weekend workouts about 4-6wks before you make that switch.
    3. In the future, please post these season planning questions here in the Macro Thread. PnI monitor this thread and the Micro Thread very closely.
