Good Meal Replacement Bars

I'm looking for a recommendation on a nutritious meal/snack bar that i can probably pick up at the local grocery store. I've spent a lot of time reading labels looking for the right mix of protein and complex carbs, but really haven’t found anything decent.

I know there a decent products that you can get online, but its just not convenient.

Now i'm guessing some folks might want to reply and recommend alternatives such as fruit, yogurt, etc. I'm already there. I just need something for those times when real food isn’t available.

  • I like Clif bars and Clif Builder's Bars.

  • Nort sure how they rate nutrition-wise, but, my wife and I enjoy the Zone bars. The chocolate peanut butter are great! They are really probably NOT outstanding on the nutrition because they taste too good to be!
  • I know you'd have to eat a lot of them to replace a whole meal (I've done it), but the Lara Bars are great for replenishing cals, are all natural ingredients, soy-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, etc.
  • I'll look into Cliff Builder and Lara bars. I've had the zone bars before and their really good, but most have a lot of sugar. Thanks all!!

  • NRG bars. All natural, yummy tasting. Downside is they can be hard to find. They are produced here in MA and I emailed the guy that they are the best tasting bars I have ever had. I was eating one with a protein shake for breakfast during IM training. They were also good between meals.

If you read up on them and want to give them a try, PM me. I can't eat them anymore. They aggravate my gluten intolerance, despite being wheat free. I have at least 4 bars that I was going to put into a bag of food for the food shelter.
  • I like KIND bars. Not necessarily meal replacements, but good and filling - and real food!
  • I try to avoid bars for meal replacement, but I do eat them when traveling on business since it is better than making poor choices at the airport and/or showing up super-hungry to over-the-top dinners where more poor choices abound. So I travel with a stash of Clif Bars (~240-260 calories, depending on the flavor), and sometimes also some Nature Valley granola bars.
  • Yeah, I second Matt's vote - Cliff Bars and Nature Valley Granola are my favorites and for my sweet tooth, I have replaced my mid afternoon cookie craving with Fiber One bars.
  • Bare Naked bars, awesome

  • +1 on Lara, Clif builder, and Nature Valley

All different, and almost for different purpose. I hardly eat them at all except in high training season, but do like all of these when I do eat them.
  • I like both Lara (apple cinnamon) and Kind (fruit & nut in yogurt ) bars, but I don't find them at every market.
  • Yummy = ProBar (especially as a "meal replacement" if traveling, Clif, Luna, Nature Valley - also like their "sweet & salty" bars on long rides for a change of pace

Yucky = anything by Powerbar, not a fan of the "fruity" Lara/Kind types of bars
