Outseason test falling on same week as first half ironman.....

I was looking ahead on the training plan and noticed that on week 20 where test week falls is the same week that my first half ironman is too. Not sure what to do about this week of testing. It is a little ways out..April 20th, but am wondering what should be done this week? Push the test off a week, do it a week early? Would appreciate any feedback on this!!! THANKS!!!

  • Plan to race based off your most recent test. Don't worry about a week 20 test. Then, test a few weeks later for your next build towards a race.
  • Are you doing a half IM on the OS (hacked)? If so awesome. I've heard RorP say it can likely be done.
  •  Thanks for the help! I will be doing the half ironman on the last week of OS. Bike rides on Saturday will be longer than plan states so I will be ready, but Coach says that's alright since I am able to ride outside and the run should be ready. We will see how it goes. Last year this race did not go well for me, so I know it will be better this year!!!

Do you think it would be beneficial to test a week early...week 19 in OS, or just test few weeks after the race?

Are you riding with power and/or running with pace?

  • Next week I will be on week 14,  another test. I am currently using both power and run pace for training.

Because you're training with power and pace, I suggest you test before the race, so you can use the results for pacing and to see how you did during the race. Ie, how you raced relative to what the tests said you could do.

  •  Thanks Coach Rich!!! Few weeks away, but I will keep EN posted on how the first 70.3 goes for the season!
