Road bike rental in San Diego

Headed to San Diego for almost 2 weeks on Monday.  I had planned to bring my bike but realized that Delta jacked up their already obscene charge for a bike to $200 EACH WAY.  That's a deal breaker.  Anyone know of a local shop with decent rentals?  I Googled and found several but they all look like relatively low end bikes with Tiagra or Sora components and triples.  One place has a Giant TCR3  but it's $75/day.  I', looking for a Mon-Mon rental most likely.  I've got a friend in the area looking for something I can borrow but figured I'd check out rentals too.

  • Lots of good shops in SD but I doubt you'll find anything better than $75/day. That sounds reasonable to me, for the rental of a legit road bike.

  • Check out Nytro.  They are north of SD in Encinitas, but not that far.  www.nytro.com

  • We rented a Cervelo S1 for a week last summer. $225 +tax etc for a week.

However, I did call around a lot (google bike rental San Diego) and there were several other shops that had similar rentals. The S1 just worked very well for our needs, so we went with it.

Other than the bike having an insane amount of gunky black grease on the drive train, it worked out very well for us.

  • I don't mind a standard alu frame but I'd like at least 105 components and a double. I found options with Sora or Tiagra for $25/day or $100/week. I don't need the TCR3 @ $75/day. An S1 would be fine with decent components. I haven't checked out Nytro yet.
  • What we got was just the stock bike as sold by Cervelo - no changes at all. So it was mostly ultegra.
