All about the bike! Goals for STP vs Tri
As some of you have seen, I've got a cycling-intensive first half of the year, with the following on top of my NOS workouts:
-base camp, 2 weeks ago, 202 miles in 3 days.
-Majorca Spain, 4/3 - 4/10, don't know what the exact mileage will be yet, but it'll be high and hilly
-Easter Hill Country Tour, 4/22 - 4/24, at least 200 miles in three days
-several century and century++ rides in preparation for Seattle to Portland on July 9 (all 200+ miles in one day)
I'll find out in mid-May, if I'm going to be able to do KS70.3 as my mid-season race.
My usual weekly bike routine is:
-Tu/Th rides with the roadies, about 32-36 miles
-Sat long ride
-Sun medium ride (~50 miles)
I'm still doing my running, and will add back in the swimming next week. Along with the time change next weekend, all should be good going forward. So I hope to be ready for KS70.3 if it does happen.
Not knowing for sure if I'm going to have KS70.3 at this point, I'm not sure what bike to use: tri or road. I was contemplating doing Tu/Th rides on the tri bike, and the long weekend rides on the road bike. Do you think that'll cover all my bases?
I've been using my road bike for the NOS and all the rides, inside and out (if available).

Scott, I see no need to get too worked up about which bike you use, UNLESS:
If you are a very high need to perform well in KS, then spend all your time for two months ahead of that on the tri bike. I've done a number of multi-day bike tours on my road bike, after spending several months exclusively on the TT bike, and found no issues in comfort switching back to the drop handlebars etc for, say, a 500 mile week. It doesn't work so well the other way around for me, though.
If you're well-trained for an HIM, and have been doing all those bike miles and hills, you'll have no trouble on the STP - it'll be just a fun day, not hard work.
