Quarq Not Working. Ideas and Feedback wanted

Just threw this up in the NOV OS.  Any of you guys have any feedback on it?

[went to the Cave for this brick. found out QUARQ NOT WORKING! uggghhh, damn expensive toys. tried to 'find' it, no difference. tried to 'pair' it, no luck. changed the battery, no difference. DASHES in 'Watts' and 'Cad' just staring at me. errrr.......

decided to do the workout based on pace (have noticed that a trainerMPH of about 20.5-21 was giving me around 115%-130%FTP in the previous weeks) and HR. Numbers aside, is this an OK substitute? Is the relation of speed to watts in a consistent environment like a trainer in a basement somewhat reliable? ]

thx,

Chris

  • It should be an okay substitute. The relation to speed and watts on the trainer is probably pretty reliable.

If you haven't dealt with Quarq's customer service before, they're the best in the industry. I'd send them an email now (sometimes they respond on the weekends) and then call on Monday morning. They'll fix you up. Also go to: http://www.quarq.com/forum/quarq-discussion/ to see what you can find there.
  • I've emailed/called Quarq just now. I'll pursue more aggressively Monday if I don't hear from them over the weekend. I plan on doing the Tues brick on Monday, using whatever numbers I have available, much like today.
  • With what device do you use your Quarq? A Garmin, Joule, iBike? Could it be that device instead of the Quarq?

As for the battery change, I've found that I have to change the Quarq battery about 2-3 times a year. How old is your Quarq? If you got it before Spring 2010, it may need an electronics upgrade to be "found". I've called the Quarq people a few times and have found them to be very helpful and prompt. I hope your experience is the same.

    Good luck!
  • @ Kitima - got a Joule, it seems to be working fine, evidenced by a functioning HR monitor and speed reading. Just got the Quarq back in February. I have complete confidence this will get resolved quickly. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't something ez to fix before I packed/mailed it to Quarq HQ.

    thanks,
    C
  • @Chris,

I've never had a dropout on my Quarq that was not battery related. Sorry, wish I had better advice. If you have any other power-capable ANT+ sensors, I'd attempt to pair with that just to isolate the problem to the Quarq, otherwise Quarq has been known to provide overnight service in the past.
  • I have a friend that went out on a rids with me yesterday and was having similar problems...let us know what the fix is if you figure it out.
  • Did you check the magnet is still in the right spot... I is need for the quarq to turn on. Also did you move the compute to be within a fee inches of the crank and try to pair it again?

As others said, call quarq today and they will take care o you.
  • Yep, did all that.

Worked with the Quarq crew for several minutes while my bike was up on the work stand. They finally cried Uncle. I had it on a plane to South Dakota, via FedEx, within the hour. Hopefully will have have it back in time for Saturday's ride.

If I hear of anything interesting, I'll let you guys know.
  • Chris,

What was the final result here?
  • Hey Jeff, thanks for the reminder. I sent it to Quarq and got it back within 4 days, working great. But, I've been meaning to call them and find out what the diagnosis was, just out of curiousity. I'll call them today and update this post.
