Intro Thread - don't be a lurker

Ok...team is a lot bigger than ever.  Lets all introduce ourselves.  Lets start with:

Where you are from:

What you do:

Raced LP before:

Number of IM races done:

Coming to the rally in June;

Who will be coming to the race with you:

What are you racing before LP:

What your goals are:

I will start:

Live in Clifon Park NY [couple hours south of LP] and have a place in the adirondacks at Friends lake [about an hour south of LP].  I  zealously defend the rights of the rich and powerful. Only IM 's were LP in 07 and 08 -- 08 on the EN Plan.  Will be at the rally in June, that will be as least as much fun as race weekend.  My awesome wife Jenny and my kids Ashley [7] and Matt [6] will be around for race weekend.  They will be in the kids race and looking for some serious competition, or al least people to play with.

Leading up I am participating in the Tour of the Batenkill in April, American Zofingen F1 in May, Rally and likely the Tupper Lake Half in June [shhhh don't tell].  My goal is to finish with enough energy to be able to stand around at the finish waiting until Coach P finishes, no matter how long that takes, or at least be done before he drinks all the beer.

How about the rest of you?

  • Hey Chris!

"My name is Jonathan Lieberman and I'm an EN-a-holic..."

I'm a proud Clydesdale who went from 241 lbs a year ago to a much leaner 210 lbs now. I'm originally from Ossining, NY but live in Delaware Valley / Philly suburbs last 22 years. I am an interventional radiology fellow in Philly, graduating in June. IMLP will be my first Ironman, and my present to myself for completing my medical training. I have two kids who may or may not come up for the race; however, my very supportive wife Andrea will be coming, and so I booked the nicest place possible at Mirror Lake Inn to give her a vacation and spa-like experience for those 4 days.

I was registered for this race in 1999 (and we were booked to stay at same room at Mirror Lake Inn!) but I had to drop out of training that year for health reasons. A decade + of medical training and body abuse later, here I am trying to come full circle. I won't be at the rally in June because I'm registered for Eagleman which is that weekend. I would love to drop a sub-12 at LP (my first HIM at Syracuse was 6:03, and I raced very conservatively) and accordingly have been hitting the Advanced OS hard - but realistically I am just aiming to finish strong and happy.

Ironman to me represents so much about life and dreams and pursuit and never giving up and sacrifice that I get very emotional every time I think about it, which is about 3-4 times an hour. image Needless to say I am so excited to have met up with this team and these amazing people, and can't wait to become a member of the Ironman family.
  • Live in eastern Maine, 3 hours from Portland.  I am a GIS (geographic information system) Analyst for a land management company.  I do mapping and analysis on 835,000 acres of timberland for a single family.   Been with them for 11 years.  Carole and our kids should be there.  My son Kyle (26), his new bride Maria, along with Carole's 2,  Nick (26) and Sierra (23) should all be there - I think.

This will be my first IM.  Did my first HIM last fall at Pumpkinman.  First tri was in Lobsterman Oly in 2009

Cant make the rally, my son is getting married that weekend.  Plan to do a DIY rally the following weekend.  Will be at the same condo with a friend who is doing IMLP too.

    • New Bedford Half Marathon 3/20
    • Great Bay Half Marathon 4/3
    • Boston Marathon 4/18
    • Raceing Participating in Mooseman Oly & HIM 6/4 - 6/5
    • Cape Cod for my son's Wedding 6/11
    • DIY LP rally 6/16 - 6/19

Goals (since it is my first):

    1. Finishing - non negotiable or die trying
    2. 14 hours - seems possible
    3. 12 hours - Yeah, who am I kidding?

Be interesting to go back to Placid.  I went to school at Paul Smiths College in the '70's and liveed/camped/worked in the Sara-Placid area for 7 years.  have'nt been back much since.  If I thought I could make a living there, I'd move back in a heartbeat.

  • Hi Guys,

Thanks for getting this thread rolling Chris !!    I live in Hampton NH. Just celebrated my 20th year in private practice as a Chiropractor. This will be my 3rd IM,  I did Wisconsin this past Sept and LP in 2009.

My intention was to take this year off from IM, but since I came 1:49 from qualifying for Kona this fall I talked my wife into giving me another shot.  So I got a Community Fund Slot  ( which means I paid double to have the honor of doing this race) and my goal is to give my best effort to qualify ( I'll be a little shy of 48 yrs old at race time)

I rented a house on Mirror lake to be shared by my younger brother who will be doing his 1st IM and his wife and 4 kids, my mom and dad and my wife and 3 kids ( 19, 17 and 12). My other 2 brothers and their families will be making an appearance on race day to cheer us on.  So it will be a great family gathering !

I will be attending the rally in June and plan on doing the Mooseman Oly the weekend before the rally. Looking forward to meeting you all !!

  • Hey everyone!

I live in Endicott, NY (a little over an hour straight south of Syracuse) and have been a resident of that community for the majority of my life.  I raced LP last year as my first IM and had a GREAT TIME!  Found Coach P on Friday morning, heard his talk, watched the 4keys DVD Friday and Saturday while I had nothing better to do and couldn't sleep, and just had a spectacular race the EN way.  Hustled right home after the race and joined the team dreaming of an even better year this year.  Trained with EN for Syracuse 70.3 and ended up knocking 15 min off my previous HIM persuit best so... I'm all in.  image

Planning on doing the Bridges run (a BRAND new half marathon in Binghamton in May) and then the HarryMan Half the following weekend.  Plan is to hit the rally in June but that is still up in the air.  Then I am doing a couple sprint tris at 3 and 1 week out from LP.  I raced hard the Saturday before LP last year and it really set me right for that last week of rest so I'll do the Mini-Mussel this year (wishing I could do the full Musselman but knowing better....).

I have 4 friends from my local tri club that will be racing LP as well as a good group of people from the club volunteering and/or just cheering, plus several family members that have committed to being there - should be a great time. (I think they volunteered me to put the tent up too... mental note: bring the tent).

My goals:  to have NO MORE INJURIES this year, have as much fun as I had last year (and smile the whole way again), to chick at least one of the guys that I am racing with from my local club and to maybe go sub 12.  (12:47 last year... 12 is do-able...maybe...we'll see how the rest of my training goes....)   Oh... and most importantly... to cheer all of you on every step of the way. image

    Sincerely, your resident cheerleader

  • Hey guys,
I’m originally from Connecticut but me and my wife and 2 year old daughter now live in Alexandria, VA. We’ve lived in the Northern VA area for the past 6 years. I currently work for the Federal Govt (USMC Civilian Employee-I’m actually an Army Vet who works for the Marine Corps now).
This is my second season of Triathlon training and this will be my first Ironman. My starting point was “going to the gym” good shape. Last March I was getting really bored with going to the Gym and doing the same old routine. Saw ironman Kona on TV one weekend and decided right then and there that this is what I wanted to do so I jumped online and signed up for a Sprint and Olympic distance triathlon last summer. I didn’t even have a bike or any idea where my local pool was. I was one of the lucky folks to get a LP spot online the day after the 2010 race. I was hitting refresh on my computer at 11:59. I soon became overwhelmed with, “what on earth am I supposed to do to get ready for this thing.” Found EN and signed up right away. That was the smartest thing I’ve done to get ready for LP.
    My Season is pretty simple:
    -Focus on Training for LP
-Reston, VA two mile open water swim race in May (really just a start to a big day of training)
    -LP Rally in June
    -Ironman in July
-I may sign up for late summer early fall races depending upon how I feel after LP.
Goals for LP are to finish in less than 14 hours, have a good run, and do my best to stay out of the med tent.
My wife and daughter are coming to the race weekend with me. My mom and sister will also be there for race day.
  • Hi everyone!

I'm Joe Crispino, born and raised in Rochester (Fairport) NY.

Quick background about myself...I started triathlons in 2005 doing the short courses.  Finally graduated to a couple 1/2 irons (1st one a dissaster, second one felt pretty good).  after my second 1/2 iron I decided to take the plung and signed up for IMPL 2010.  so, this year will be my second time to the dance.

My race last year went well until the 2nd half of the run.  I met my goal but not the way I planned.  I have to say overall I was happy with my first go at it.

I am excited about EN and the training philosophy!  I am hoping to PR this year at placid.  Most of all, I'm excited to be racing with all of you as fellow team mates!  Can't wait to see everyone on the course.

  • Hello everyone, my name is Henry Sacco. I work in corporate management for a global retailer. I have a wife and two teen age children. I live in Rowley, Ma and spent most of my life in the area, other than when i was in the military.

I've been training for the last three years (now that kids are older) and completed my first IM last year in Lake Placid. I've completed a handful of HIM as well as marathons and other distance races. My favorite non triathlon distance is a half mary.

I'm undecided on the rally as i had originally planned to race the Patriot Half, which is 1 week after the rally. It's a B race that i've already paid for, so....still deciding.

Given this is my second time doing IMLP, i'd like to PR, but my first goal is to finish strong. I'm not fast by any means at this distance and would be happy to break 12:30.

  • Where you are from: I'm from Charlottesville, Va

What you do: I'm a software engineer with a specialty in Predictive Analytics.

Raced LP before: No, but very excited to do this race as it is a classic. It will be very tempting to sign up for LP2012 while there, but I'm thinking I'd rather try a different race, maybe IMMoo next year.

Number of IM races done: 2 My first was Beach 2 Battleship in Nov. 2009. I had an awesome debut race where I took the bike really easy and passed a million people on the run. Finished in 12:12 and even got 2nd in age group in this small race. 2nd was IMLou 2012. I got food poisoning the week before and went into the race not 100%. It was really hot, but I made it through and ran all but the aid stations. 13:16 I also did Long Course Worlds in Germany last year which is almost an Ironman. That was an amazing experience. I may try to get a spot for LC Worlds at Pigman later this year. Not sure of post-IMUSA plans yet.

Coming to the rally in June: Yes! I'm also doing the Blue Ridge Camp in Virginia. You all should sign up, it will be a blast!

Who will be coming to the race with you: Mom, and two of her sisters.

What are you racing before LP: I'm am focused on St. Croix through May 1, then will focus in IM training.

What your goals are: To race to my fitness potential on the day. Don't know what that is yet, but I'm excited about the gains I'm seeing with EN training!

I will start: I'll start IMUSA training focus around the second week in May.

I live in Orchard Park, NY (Buffalo). I am a Software Developer and this will be my first IM. I have done (sort of) three HIM’s (Syracuse, Muskoka, Mussellman). I am coming to the rally in June. I’m not sure if anyone is coming to the race with me. I have two adult kids out on the west coast and a third, just married in Rochester, NY with little time off. I do belong to the Buffalo Triathlon Club and we had about 70 or 80 there last year, so I expect a lot of support from them and EN.

I am pretty focused on LP so have not planned much else yet. I am doing an Olympic at Keuka Lake the Sunday before the rally. I still have not decided on my goals for the race either. Last year was my 1st time in Lake Placid when I was a kayak volunteer for the IM. My goal then was to just finish the race. That plan was to swim, bike and then walk the run. That has all changed since joining EN in November. I have been a lurker in the OS but am getting pumped up for this by all of you. EN and the OS have convinced me that I will be running 26 miles after I bike.

I was a Kayak volunteer at LP last year as well, wonder if we met.  I thought it was a very cool way to look at the swim and changed my perception of it.  Our path's have crossed at least one other time as I raced in Cuse last fall as well.  I was the guy in the EN kit bleeding a lot after I crashed my bike and was too stubborn to drop out.

  • Yeah Chris, that kayak experience was awesome especially trying to get those last few swimmers across the line before time expired. I can't believe I missed your mess in Syracuse except for the fact that since I have never trained for a race until now, I wasn't thinking about anything other than finishing.

Where you are from:  Originally from Philly - but spent most of the last 20yrs in Morristown, NJ area (north/central).

What you do:  Retirement Consultant - keeping companies retirement plans in compliance with the law (yeah sounds exciting I know).

Raced LP before: No, but voluntered last year (awesome experience) and was up there again last Sept (bought tri-bike in VT @ Fit-Werx a couple hours away from LP).

Number of IM races done:  2011 is my 5th yr of doing triathlons.  Did B2B last Nov as my first IM w/no formal coaching / training.  Went out very conservative and finished with no real physical issues - so that was a success in of itself.  Now - to get faster.  And yes - as of this moment - I am still officially a clydesdale @ 200.5 lbs (probably not on race day) - but I am out to prove that middle-aged (45) big guys can go fast (relatively speaking of course).

Coming to the rally in June;  Yes - should be great fun. b/t/w - this is my first year w/EN.

Who will be coming to the race with you:  Just my parents right now - we'll see - more could come -brother & his g/f - sister/niece - and maybe my girlfriend.

What are you racing before LP:  Bassman Sprnt, Jerseyman HIM, Superhero Half Mary, a few 2.4 swims and maybe Rev3 Oly or HIM in CT.  Am signed up for Philly Oly - but thats 3wks out from LP and a big RR day so don't know..

What your goals are:  Execute the best race I can based on my fitness on that day (which hopefully gets me around 12hrs).  And while in the heat of the race - to never lose perspective on the great opportunity we have to do something we love to do...

Everyone stay healthy and train hard....

  • I live in Milton, MA (about 1/2 mile from the Boston city line), but am originally from upstate NY. I'm a social worker and run and alternative public high school program. LP will be my first IM even though I've been with EN since the beginning. I will be at the training camp in June to scout out the course. I'm coming up with my wife and may have some other family joining me at some point, but I'm still planning that out. LP is really my only race scheduled at this point, although I'd like to fit in a HIM someplace, but scheduling sucks right now. As far as goals go, I think I'll keep it simple and just say survival and enjoying the moment.
  • Where you are from: Beantown, MA

What you do: Father of two amazing girls, part time tri coach. image

Raced LP before: Yes, 5 or 6 times.

Number of IM races done: 14 or 15.

Coming to the rally in June: Hell yeah!

Who will be coming to the race with you:

What are you racing before LP: Boston Marathon, Patriot Half Iron.

What your goals are: I am aiming high this year, for a 9:45 finish so I can drink all the beer before Chris G gets there. image
  • Where you are from: Originally from Long Island, but now in Delmar, NY - a mile outside of Albany and about a 2.5 hour drive to Lake Placid.

What you do: Fisheries biologist for NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Currently running our 12 fish hatcheries.

Raced LP before: No, but have spectated on numerous occasions and volunteered last year at the special needs bike station.

Number of IM races done: None. This is the first!

Coming to the rally in June: Yes. I should also mention that my in-laws have a place on Lake Placid, so I am up there quite a bit and know the area well.

Who will be coming to the race with you: Lots of family - wife, daughter, parents, brother and sister and their families, other stragglers. They all are making a vacation out of it. Adds a little pressure...   Also about 10 Delmar area triathlon friends who are also doing the race (been passing the EN cool aid to them whenever possible).

What are you racing before LP: Half marathon this weekend, Rev3 Quassy Half Ironman. That's it for anything longer than a 5k.

What your goals are: Finish in the daylight feeling (relatively) good. Since this is my first one, I can't even attempt a time goal at this point.

Very psyched to be part of EN and this group. The OS was great, and definitely worked well for me. Looking forward to the challenge of the next 20 weeks, and meeting everyone in person at the rally and race!

  • I guess I'm a lurker! Well, I just don't keep up with the forums and get overwhelmed when I start looking, since I don't know where to start with all the content and threads and resources and fun stuff, etc, etc. :-), but this is a fun one to maybe get going a little again...

From: originally from the Netherlands (Groningen), been living in Ann Arbor, MI for the past 7 yrs

Job: work in product management at a software company that develops and sells licenses to supply chain optimization and simulation software

What your goals are: goal #1 is to finish & enjoy the race and everything around it; ultimate goal is around 11.5 hrs, but I'm not sure if that's even realistic image
  • Hi my name is Steve and I am a tri aholic. I to confess to being a lurker, time to get off the pot as they say. I presently live in Ottawa Canada with my awesome wife Brenda( EN member as well). I am retired from the military and work as a operating room nurse at a community hospital in Ottawa.I have been phsically active all my life and have enjoyed triathlon the last 7-8 yrs.

Well the Boston marathon is now over my mind is now turning towards the tri season and IMLP.

This will my fourth time participating in IMLP and the awesome venue. I recently did IMFL in NOV 2010.

My wife and I will be down for the rally in June. As well, we will be there multiple times starting with the May long weekend Canadian and June w/e's as well.. If you won't be at the rally but will be there in June just e-mail me to see if we can hook up on same weekend.

I will be doing the Tupperlake HIM in June as my last tune up before IMLP. I have other races planned in the schedule as well as finishing up the summer doing the Lake George HIM on September long weekend.

What is your goal? My goal is alway's trying to get in before dark. That is what drives my engine. So needless to say this year my goal is as above. Hopefully with this new trg regime and I stay healthy throughout the training I hope to have my fastest time to date from IMLP if not a solid day  is all I ask.

To all you IMLP er"s good training, stay healthy, use the IMLP thread and let's keep each other motivated for race day. See you all at the rally!!

PS Thanks to Chris G for making me realize how much of a lurker I have been ha ho hum! cheers Steve R
