Lets take swimming out of the, er, water closet?

There is always a whole bunch of nonsense surrounding the "EN does not swim in the OS" thing.  Well the OS is over and it is time to get back in the pool or if you have been in the pool all winter its ok to talk about again.

What is everyone's plan?

Any tips?

I have tried to go to masters at least once a week over the winter more for the social aspect than anything else.  Will try to be focused about swimming at least 3 times a week from here on out.  Aiming for 9k a week in the pool.

  • I read the Swim eBook, and with just a few technique tips, I am doing much better keeping up with the fasties at Masters. I've been swimming for years and have had lots of technique coaching, but no one had ever told me about the timing of the catch vs. power phase. Key for me. If you other EN newbies have not checked it out yet, definitely do it soon.

  • Totally agree with you.  That Rich is actually a pretty bad ass swim coach and has put together a ton of materials on swimming [which he gives away for free] seems to get lost in all the noise about not swimming in the winter.

  • I have not been in the water much. Starting in December I have had a broken rib, MRSA, and now an ear infection, so only three times in the water in 2011.  I am an EN newbie and just started swimming a few years ago so can use all the help I can get. I have not read the swim ebook yet but plan to do so soon. Hopefully I can rejoin the masters group next week.

  • E Book is great...Love the videos, especially the videos of Patrick evaluating people swimming. I have watched those many times over. I also have been doing dry land drills. I have been in the pool 3 times now and I am getting stronger each time. Did 2000 yard workout in about 45 minutes yesterday. Felt good.
Forms still needs lots of work for sure. If only I had a 50meter lap pool in my back yard...
  • Started swimming March 1, first time in water since Nations Tri last September. Plan on going to Masters two times a week until May then move it to 3 times a week (dreading that).
  • I'm in the pool 3x's per week starting last week. Alternating between position progression and actual swimming. Right now it's all about trying to build up my muscles so I can actually do the 1000TT test. Haven't swum since Timberman 2009 (it's been a long time). Speed is there, but no endurance.
  • Plan to get back in the water as soon as the November OS ends, and work with the EN swim ebook during a two week transition. Will be interesting to see if I can still swim...
  • I'm officially convinced through my own experience that EN is spot on with not swimming in the OS...been in the pool 6 times now and my improvement from session 1 to session 6 has been like 1000%. Form is coming back and swim times are going down. I just need to work on the muscle endurance part and of course continue to improve upon the form. Plenty of time for this as its only March.
  • I am 3x a week, but only 1k each time as it's during the kids swim lessons. working on finding the time to make it happen!
  • Just back in the pool last couple of weeks. So far it has been drill and stroke focused to feel the water again. I feel fresh since the break from the water since Nov. Will keep up drill/stroke pay no attention to mileage for the next 2 weeks. Then start 3/weekly( e book} sessions with the last 12 weeks up to IMLP.
  • I've been back in the pool for a while and feel like I've hit that plateau where I need to go back to some of the form work. I just keep rattling off 1:40's when I do the 300 sets, which is my T-pace, but it's just not getting any faster. I think I'm going to make Friday a very long swim day with a lot of drills then finishing off what I can do of the workout main set.
