How's everyone's training going?
Just thought I'd start a thread to see how everyone is doing thus far. I've had to adjust some of my training, due to hamstring, faciaitis issues, but am doing pretty good. If some of you are not yet on iamTri, sign up online, through Ironman.com and join the IMLOU group, run by Bob Baney! He has training dates set up for the entire summer, on the course. There will be swim practice in the river, and you can bike/run the course. Only cost is your transportation to the Ville, hotel room, and a $10.00 donation for SAG. It is a priceless opportunity! And Bob ROCKS! He is THE MAN!

I am feeling completely hammered at the moment and the transition weeks are going to do a world of good for me. I am glad to say I have had a healthy OS with no injuries. If I can repeat my previous FTP during the final test next week I'll be delighted.
I have met Bob a couple of times; once at a ride of the course last summer, and another time at a local TT here in Lexington where we both live. He is a real nice guy and the training days are well-run.
While there is nothing special about the bike course, it was nice to have seen it all before race day. As far as the swim goes, it is also helpful to have experienced zero visibility swimming before the big day.
Well – Training not going as planned – Darn old body won’t just suck up abuse and get on with it.
During the Kona marathon last fall my right knee soundly told me that 3 IM’s in 14 weeks was over the top. Coming down Palani drive with 2+ miles to go, the left knee buckled, I caught my sell and it happened 2 more time to the finish. I only took 3 weeks of down time then hit the Nov OS. When that left knee continued to be an issue. I finally got an MRI of the knee last week – well no running for 4-6 weeks. I managed to bruise the tibia – working on a stress fracture. The good news no ligament or tissue damage!
So I will focus on growing my bike power and get back at swim a bit harder.
We will be there on the starting line with the team and have a great day!
Matt
Sorry to hear this Matt but at least there's plenty of time before the race to heal up and get back to training.
Barbara - ditto on getting outside! Just a teaser this week in SW OH. 75F at 6pm Monday, snow in the forecast for tomorrow! Yes, we have 4 seasons in SW OH, somethimes all in the same week!
Chris - thanks for the link & updates on IMKY course rides. It's just over a couple hrs away from home, but should be good experience with a safe, supported ride. We have many, many "guard dogs" at farms in this area that like to hunt bike riders, making the big rides a little dicey. We do have an excellent bike path network (unfortunately, recently flooded), but it has few elevation challenges. Can still get in big miles once the path's been cleared of flood debris. Otherwise, it can be quite an exercise in tube changes & repairs!
IMKY Group (especially any in SW Ohio) - how/where are you getting in your long rides?
Jumped from OS plan to IM Advanced Plan on week 9/20.
Went from 7-8hr/wk since september to 12 and 13 hrs last 2 weeks.
I doing well hitting the targets but not sleeping well.
Sure the body is feeling the stress.
My Bike/Run TSB has been hovering around -30
Running an Open HM next weekend so will take an easier next week up to the race on Sat...should help.
Metatarsalgia flared up now - going to podiatrist for re-exam. Orthotics & maximum stability shoes kicked plantar & ankle issues, so we're down to fixin' the left foot.
Got my first Infinit order last week; 3hr ride Saturday with it was non-eventful (a good thing). N=1 says this stuff may work out OK. Time will tell.
Train safe, stay healthy! Mr. Bee
PS: According to the laws of aerodynamics, the bumblebee cannot fly due to the size and mass of his body compared to his tiny wing span, but nobody told him!
To quote Matt, "Well – Training not going as planned – Darn old body won’t just suck up abuse and get on with it"
While not offically (i.e. asked for the small refund from Ironman) withdrawn, realistically I'm out of IMKY. Bad flare up of some old neck issues in early March (week 19 of Nov OS for me) led eventually to a spinal fusion a week ago. Its getting better, but I haven't run a step since March 8th, and probably can't run at all until about July 1st. Haven't had the discussion with the Doc yet on biking, but its probably a similiar timetable. I just don't see any way at this point to be able to get to the start line with anywhere close to the level of fitness needed for the proverbial "finish with a smile on my face" goal. I guess at this point the short(er) term goal is to get back to where I can start thinking about training again, and see what happens from there.
Best of luck to all,
Brian
Really sorry to hear this Brian. I'm sure you've been training hard all winter like the rest of us and to have to pull the plug is too bad. I hope you make a full recovery and can get back to training ASAP.
Brian,
Sorry to hear about the spinal fusion. Take care of yourself ---- triathlon will still be here when you are healed.
Best of luck to you as well,
Joe
Brian,
Get well...that is the most important thing.
Thanks to all for the kind words, they're greatly appreciated. I'm recovering, starting to get the "normal life" stuff back a bit more to normal. Just taking it day by day, will be listening to the Doc's advice and guidence on getting back at it.
However, I've done my best to stay close to the prescribed training, all by feel, and some heart rate. Was recently diagnosed with a severe Vit. D deficiency, which explains a lot of my problems this year. Just started the Vit. D RX last week, so too early to tell how much it will help. I've been told it should make a world of difference. I hope that's true!! Had a tooth extracted on Monday, so feeling under the weather since then. Hope to feel up to a bike or short run this afternoon.
@Matt, how is your tibia? I hope you are back to your workouts.
I have been focusing on my swim. Bike has been sporadic, so I won't be as strong this year as I was last year. Running has been okay. Hoping it will be better, once the RX kicks in and helps w/my extrememe fatigue.
@Brian, so glad you are getting back to normal things, after your surgery. Get strong!
Michael, Bradley, Chris, hope all of you are doing well, and workouts have been going good! I'm trying to re-ignite my mojo and will attempt to get it going here as well!!
IMLOU isn't that far away!!! Giddy UP!!!
Training is going well. I'm doing the Little Smokies Half this weekend, taking two transition weeks, then hitting it hard for Louisville.
Looking forward to a solid race prep. Probably won't be able to train on the course prior to the race but I will think of it as a series of "pleasant surprises"
Training going well - body is a bit fatigued, feels good today. In my 3rd week of IM program, jumped in at week 5 of the program. The volume is quite a jump from the OS - but I seem to be adapting.
First race - June 18th Patriot HIM.
From there it is all IM LOU!!
IMKS 70.3 inn 2 weeks, then, rest until the weekend after, then start up IMKY plan.....whatever week that is.
Thanks Tim,
