  • Hey do you guys want to scout out possible team dinner places? I know Michael is very familiar with the town so maybe you guys can come up with some ideas. Thanks, Tucker
  • hi all:

-a sat ride starting at around the same time we'll be riding on race day sounds good;  i vote for that.

-a saturday dinner also makes sense, since we can go over the day's ride/run; i vote for that.

-for those there for the weekend, i will run one loop of the run course on sunday in case anyone wants to join for some of it or all of it.  everyone at their own pace, of course.  if the water in the lake is cold enough, i can go in from the waist down afterwards for cold therapy on the legs!

    looking forward to it.

  • Hey guys..
I am in CDA this weekend with a group from Seattle doing a training camp. We arrived Thurs evening and will finish up tomorrow.

We have been swimming at the Kroc Center.
    http://www.kroccda.org/main.php

Its a beautiful facility with a really nice pool. The group I am with rented 3 lanes (I'm not sure of the cost), but it looks like they have a drop-in rate also.

Lots of folks out on the course today....sun is shining and its mid-50s.

    Dana
  • Thanks Dana!!! My Mom (who lives in CDA) made that suggestion as well. Glad to hear it should work nicely for you guys! I'll be using it.
  • The Saturday RR and dinner sounds good to me. I'm planning to arrive Friday evening 5/13 and head back home Saturday night after the RR and dinner.
  • I am in for the CDA RR- bringing the fam friday night. I think we are staying in the Red Lion. The ride saturday at 8:30a and the run sunday sounds great! Dinner on saturday night is a go as well. I am looking to do a 6 1/2 hour bike split so if that is near anyones pace then you will have a partner for the ride. Where are we meeting saturday morning. My cell # 253-365-2522.

BTW Scott...I swim with your mom on Tuesday mornings. Nice lady!
  • We may have to start calling this a Race Rally! We should have quite a crew. A HS classmate contacted me through Facebook to see if I'd be in town that weekend, so her husband could have someone to ride with. Turns out he's a pretty serious runner and Tri guy, so he'll be joining us as well. Should be Lots of folks on the course!
  • Anyone other than speedy GH running the course on Sunday? I am looking to do it, but probably not very fast. Let me know if anyone wants to preview the run course at about 8:45 p/m pace.
  • @Michael- I will be running Sunday AM and after a 6 hour ride on saturday, an 8:45 pace might sound pretty good.

  • @Steve- Good, then I will switch up my long run to Sunday. I'm interested to see how the change to the course will make an impact on times. A little more elevation gain, but less running around in circles.
  • @ Steve, small world. My mom mentioned that a guy she swims with was looking to join EN. It will be good to meet you next weekend at the RR.
  • hi all:

so, looks like a saturday 8:30am start time for the RR.  is there a place where it makes sense to start/park?  my brother and i will likely return to the car per lap for re-fueling and then to change for the hour brick run.

    my phone is 323-547-7183.

scott, i will get you our hotel info soon.  my brother has all the information.

on sunday, i'll run one loop of the run course.  start time is not crucial for me, so if those of you running on sunday want to start at the same time, let me know.  i will pace the run brick on saturday, as per EN plan. on sunday, i will run the loop much faster.

    looking forward to it.

  • Well, looks like I may be able to make it after all... I'm about 90% sure I can, just need to tie down a few more details...

Assuming I can make it, I am defintely in for the ride + brick on Saturday...
  • As far as a place to start/park on Saturday: I suggest the parking lot immediately to the North of City Park (actually the Northwest corner of W.Mullan Rd & Northwest Boulevard). City Park is where transition will be. The parking is free if you drive just a little ways past the ice cream/hotdog window (you'll be by a baseball field and/or skate park). This is also where you will likely park in the days before the race whenever you go to the venue. There are public bathrooms in City park for changing.

Actually, could just park in City park itself (Northeast corner of the Park has parking... didn't immediately think of it as it was always full when I was there!)
  • I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and training on the coarse. My cell number is 206-552-4499. Is everybody on Beluga? This might be a good opportunity for us to test it out before race day.
  • thanks for the parking advice, Art.

Scott: can you bring a floor pump?  you are driving in, right?

i am on beluga, i think, but don't know how to use it.  it would be a good time to try and use it, if that's possible.

    GH

  • @ Scott- I am on Beluga but haven't even looked at it much less know how to use it.

@GH- I will have a floor pump if scott doesn't bring his. Can we use your vehicle as our Bike Special Needs location? That way we can have somewhere to stash out 2nd loop bottles.

We will be there around 9:00pm friday night and are staying in the Red Lion a couple miles from the park. The Spokane marathon is that weekend and it starts in Post Falls so expect lots of traffic.

  • I'll be arriving in CDA around 9pm on Friday and staying at the Day's Inn. I'm planning to do the RR on Saturday (bike, run, and dinner). Then driving home Saturday night if I feel up to it after the RR. My cell is 425-446-1240 and I am on Beluga as well.

@Steve - I'm close to your bike split so I may try to start at your pace and see how I feel.
  • FYI, Stark hooked up "GroupMe" for the IMSG crew vs Beluga. Worked very well, suggest you contact him for deets.
  • Weather Forecast for Coeur d'Alene this weekend.....wait for it...... Isolated Thunderstorms 70 degrees and 30% chance of rain.

  • uggghhh. are you guys serious!!!!!  i had not checked the weather.  what does sunday look like?

sorry guys, but i am from california and if it looks to clear on sunday, then i shift everything to sunday/monday.

the rental can be used for stashing, especially if i don't ride saturday, since i can be around to open the car.  not sure about leaving it open if we all ride on saturday, but we can come up with something.

is there a bike shop in the area.  my brother and i will need 6 CO2's (3 for him and 3 for me).  we'll either buy some or if any one has any extra we'll pay for them and then return them if not used or pay you for them if used.  thanks!!!

    gh

  • sunday looks worse on the weather report i just reviewed.

oh well, at least makes peeing on the bike easier!

    gh

This is the course for the CDA bike route- you should be able to print it out from the website and then have it laminated for the RR saturday.

  • Hey can you guys check out possible restaurants for the team dinner this weekend? And yes you should try out Beluga, all the cool kids are doing it.
  • @Tucker: Where did the team eat last year? If that worked out, we should shoot to go there again. Its pretty crazy that Friday in town, so if we already have a history with a paritcular place that will make it easier. But, we will check out palces though. I may two dinners after the RR.

@GH- FYI- Uh, 70 deg and only 30% chance of rain with some thunder. That's close to the best weather I've rode in all year and I think the actual race conditions back in 09.

I'll be in town early Friday afternoon. My cell is 253-209-4848. If folks want to get together later on Friday and talk about the course and the plans for Saturday. I'm game. I'm staying at The Ameritel. I'll do the swim portion on Thursday before I leave, so I won;t be using a local pool.

This should be fun! I'm sure we'll have plenty of company on the course.
  • thanks for the reassurance, michael.

i went through most of my young adult life without rain, long california drought.  i remember the three days or so in college when it finally did rain, there was a line out the door of the UCLA student store with people buying umbrellas, since no one owned one!  i know you guys in seattle wear rain jackets and don't even use umbrellas!  crazy.  i think i need to move to the sun.

    gh

  • What is this thing you refer to as an "umbrella" ? image
  • Yeah, rain = no train in SoCal. Sorry :-)
  • steve: thanks for the map link.  my brother did one for the run, with the info from the webpage, which i think is the new run course.  if not please let me know.  the link is here:

    http://www.mapmyfitness.com/routes/view/33931452/?open_ive_done=1

if this is the correct run course, then 597ft of total gain across both loops is looking good...i do 792 in ~13miles 2x's weekly on trails (means i can go faster on road) and 1000ft climb up very steep terrain on the short run days (2.5mile up/2.5mile down).

i'll have to see it for myself this weekend, however.

    see you guys soon.

    GH

  • @ GH, Yes I will bring my floor pump. I'll have to check my CO2 supply, if I have extras then you are free to borrow them. BTW, I am one of those Seattlites that doesn't own an umbrella.

@ Michael, I also plan to get into town early Friday afternoon. I would be up for meeting sometime late on Friday.

    See you all this weekend!
