IM Texas Course
I went out and rode part of the IMTX cource. Other than getting pretty windy later in the morning it was a nice ride. For those people coming to to the camp a couple of observations:
I now know why Keith set up the bike course to be one loop. Most of the roads are 2 lanes with minimal shoulders. Also the area around The Woodlands would be way to busy/dangerous to have the cyclists come through multuiple times.
The road surface was good. Its been a long time since I have ridden these roads, but they seem to be in pretty good shape and smooth by Texas standards.
The roads are busy. Until you get to the park there can be a good amount of traffic in places. Part of the issue is the rednecks taking their boats to the lake. You have large trucks pulling boat trailors on narrow roads.
At the end of the ride, coming back into The Woodlands is a nightmare. 2978 is very busy with high speed traffic. There is a shoulder, but traffic can get backed up. The road back to the start is the main route in the community and it carries all of the traffic to the mall and the freeway. Right were you turn onto The Woodlands Pkwy is a Walmart so you have people intent on getting their 100 pack of Old Sams special toilet paper to deal with. Also there are a ton of stop lights on the Pkwy (poorly timed), so for the camp, you are not going to be booking it back to the start.
Still a nice ride although I did come back covered in pollen. I looked like the Simpsons with my arms and legs streaked in yellow.
