Swimsuit

Ladies--Is there a GREAT swimsuit out there that you recommend? My last two have been from my local sports store (City Sports or Dick's Sporting Goods for you East Coasters), but I'm wondering if there is a better product online somewhere?

Brand? Style? Sizing true?

The ones from my local store seem to really deteriorate over time (and not a long time). I'm wondering is there is just the Mac Daddy of suits out there that I just don't know about yet?

Especially interested in hearing from m-L women. You XS-S ladies don't have the same support needs!

  • M-L Lady here. I like TYR. I have ordered them online and got them in a shop and they fit really nice and hold up, but I only swim 3 days a week and then when the weather gets warm I am in the open water, so may not be a good person to ask.
  • Chlorine resistant polyester suits last longer than nylon.

  • Well, I can't help you with the "support" issues, but I basically have come down to one brand/suit that works for me: TYR.  Preferably the "diamondback" model but the "Cross back" works too.

As for where to get them, I have had great success ordering the "Grab Bag" from SwimOutlet.  If you don't care about color/print and you pretty much know what suit/style fits, this is a really great way to go!

Here's a link to one example (they have grab bags for other brands too):

  • I know there is some new material out that is supposed to last a lot longer, but I'm drawing a blank.

Honestly, I'm a L woman and NO swimsuit gives me support. I don't worry about it when I'm in the pool - just as long as everything is well covered I'm happy. If I need it, I'll wear a sports bra, too.
  • I switched to polyester a few years ago and now only have to purchase one suit a year instead of a new suit every few months. They are awesome! Seatasea is a local shop that I pick them up from.

Swimoutlet even has a category for them...

I prefer TYR and Speedo. And, I like the wider straps over the narrow ones.
  • I've been using Ocean swimsuits (also purchased from SwimOutlet). I liked that they have a very modest cut leg opening. And the sizing always seemed true (vs. TYR which I almost always have difficulty fitting into.)
  • I did have a TYR 'reversible' racing one which won't die except I've now lost it. It was also good as slightly thicker so no risk of see through and hid most lumps.
Replaced it with speedo endurance and this one is also good. Swimming upto 3-4 times/week in it and never washing it (lazy!) and it's doing well. I've been through more goggles in the time I've had the speedo one.
  • Washing the swimsuit? Uh, you mean taking a shower in it and then rinsing it out isn't exactly "washing"? image
  • Polyester/Poleyster PBT blend has worked great for me. Speedo Endurance to be specific. I bought my most recent at Dicks. My last one lasted 2-3 years, and that's with only rinsing it out, not really washing it that often. You can feel it's a little thicker and dries quicly too.

Sometimes it doesn't even get a shower... depends how pushed for time I am
