The Swim IMLOU

I have heard different things from different people - all you Louisville vets, how dirty is the water in the river?

I'm told you can't see a thing? Any truth?

Comments

  • Water IS dirty, dark, wont see anything.

Might smell some diesel...will swim right next to a river barge.

On the good side, though, is NO waves, NO crowding.....just jump in, sit on your aerobic pace and fall asleep for an hour or so!

    I like that.

  • Do we need a decontamination tent to go through after the swim?? It's not sewage is it??

  • You can't see anything, but I did not smell diesel despite having heard people say they could.  It's like swimming in any lake I've ever been in except much warmer.

  • Bill, you will be fine. It is muddy, and you can't see when your head is in the water. However, if you have a chance to swim in water like that prior to L'Ville, you'll be used to it, and be fine. You get used to it, and just motor along.
  • LOL...did an Oly in the Schuykill River in Philly last weekend....I expect it to be similar....point to point (generally speaking) is kinda relaxing..and with the  current...

  • In the lake that I train in, I can barely see my hand when my arms are at the top of the stroke straight in front of me. The Ohio River is the same way. So I'm used to it. And I did smell diesel, but I can occasionally smell gas from the speedboats in my training lake, too.

Also, if you're wearing white, it will be brown when you get out of the water.

<<-- you see what I'm wearing there? It was brown around the waist. Still is actually, it never came clean.</p>
