Help with "used" 650 c powertap wheel

Just found out my kestrel has a cracked chainstay. My other bike is a litespeend tachyon with 650 wheels. Does anybody know someone trying to sell a 650 powertap wheel? Hesitate to want to buy new as I am now going to have (get to buy a new bike) and already have a 700cc powertap.

Ideas/thoughts?

can we (EN) get a deal on a compact crank with power, that way I could switch back and forth as needed?

thanks, paul

  • Paul,
I race 650's also, and I have not seen any on the market out there. Usually something you will have to get from wheel builder/LBS. The crank will solve the problem, but the compact crank on the 650's is a tricky gearing combo that you may want some help on.
Good luck with the new bike!!!

PS. if you find a 650 race wheel with a power tap and no longer need its services, give me a shout!
  • Go look for the "Buy Power from EN" thread. A Quarq may (or may not) be your answer.
  • Paul - Switching a compact crank (with or without a Quarq) between a 650 and a 700 bike will probably be frustrating. I ride a 650, with a 53/39 crank and a 12/27 cassette in the rear. That gives me a package which works well at my 3.2-3.4 w/kg level. A smaller big ring would have me coasting way too soon on even a shallow course like IM AZ. But, of course, depending on your w/kg, YMMV.

  • thanks all

@ Al hadn't thought about the gearing changes between sizes current have the same set up on the 650 as you are talking about.
