Help.

Hey all! So I have a 70.3 in two weeks...April 10th and my training hasn't been ideal and was wanting some feedback on how I should go about training the next two weeks leading up to the race. Training had been going well, but then had to make a trip up to Iowa to work on rental property and got into more work there than I anticipated resulting in one run and two trainer rides in two weeks. In addition I got sick few days prior to making my trip back to San Antonio. I am feeling much better, but lost some strength and unsure what to do leading into this race. It isn't an A race...more like C so was thinking I would concentrate on logging the miles and train through it, but would like feedback.

Thanks in advance!

  • Also...I am heading into week 19 in Outseason. Should I go back and hit the last two weeks of Outseason or forget, move on, and keeping moving forward?
  • I would treat this about like a typical week inside the HIM plan...maybe like a week 10ish. Is weekend, I would definitely hit the double bike and scrap the RR (assuming you have done several HIM distance races before) just to get a good high volume weekend in. Then, maybe just follow the HIM final week guidance. I would say it would be important to log some miles (ie, long run Thurs, double bike weekend) and nail a few good long swim workouts...and you will be fine.

The other thing you could do is bag the race and save the money (depends on your travel details).

    Good luck!
  • If your two weeks away and follow a typical HIM plan, then you are entering the taper of the HIM plan. If you are going to train through it, then you don't want to be doing the taper part of the plan. In looking at what you missed, I'm reading your post as missing 2 weeks of workouts. If you were pretty consistent before that then you shouldn't have lost too much. I would complete a RR to test out your power numbers and vdot to see how they feel on Sat. You can then follow this up with a good bike session the next day. I'd do week 19 of your OS, adding in a few swim days. That brings you to week 20 of the OS, which is your race week, correct?. Since week 20 is a test week, I'd scrap the tests, but do the workouts scheduled for Monday-Wednesday, making sure to add a swim. You can then do the taper workouts of the HIM plan for Thurs-Sat and then race on Sunday. Your race is really just a big training day, but since your spending money on the race, why not race it which is the reason for doing the race rehearsal.
  • Thanks for the help guys!!! To Keith-that is what I am going with!!! Thanks again and we will see how the race goes!!! image
